This paper systematically discusses the geochemical characteristics and hydrocarbon generation potential of Benxi Formation coal-bearing source rocks based on the test and analysis of total organic carbon (TOC) content, rock pyrolysis, kerogen stable carbon isotope (δC-13) and vitrinite reflectance (Ro), in order to grasp their exploration prospect.
The Carboniferous-Permian in Daning-Jixian area of Ordos Basin is a typical marine-continental transitional facies deposit, with many sets of organic-rich shales, and abundant shale gas resources. Through unremitting exploration, the shale gas exploration of Shanxi Formation has achieved a major breakthrough, but the related research of Benxi Formation remains to be further studied. Therefore, based on the test and analysis of total organic carbon (TOC) content, rock pyrolysis, kerogen stable carbon isotope (& delta;C-13(PDB)) and vitrinite reflectance (Ro), this paper systematically discusses the geochemical characteristics and hydrocarbon generation potential of Benxi Formation coal-bearing source rocks, in order to grasp their exploration prospect. The results show that the shale of Benxi Formation has high TOC content (averaging 5.13%) and high R-o (averaging 2.75%), showing good hydrocarbon generation potential. In addition, shale, coal and sandstone are interbedded and superimposed, which can realize the combined production of three gases, improve the yield and benefit, and further promote the exploration process of marine-continental transitional shale gas.
