Antifungal activities of metconazole against the emerging wheat pathogen Fusarium pseudograminearum

Xin Liu et al.

Summary: Fusarium crown rot is a severe fungal disease that has been spreading in wheat-growing areas in China since 2010. This study found that metconazole, a 14 alpha-demethylation inhibitor fungicide, effectively inhibits the growth and conidial germ tube elongation of Fusarium pseudograminearum, the predominant pathogen causing crown rot in China. Metconazole reduces toxin production and expression levels of toxin biosynthesis genes in F. pseudograminearum. Genome-wide transcriptional profiling revealed changes in gene expression related to ergosterol biosynthesis and ABC transporter-encoding genes in response to metconazole treatment. Greenhouse experiments demonstrated that seed treatment with metconazole significantly reduces crown rot occurrence in wheat.

Deoxynivalenol aggravates the immunosuppression in piglets and PAMs under the condition of PEDV infection through inhibiting TLR4/NLRP3 signaling pathway

Dandan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of DON on PEDV-induced immunosuppression and its underlying mechanism, revealing that DON exacerbates host immunosuppression under PEDV infection by inhibiting the TLR4/NLRP3 signaling pathway.

Pydiflumetofen Co-Formulated with Prothioconazole: A Novel Fungicide for Fusarium Head Blight and Deoxynivalenol Control

Simon G. Edwards

Summary: Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a significant disease affecting small grain cereals worldwide. A new co-formulation of pydiflumetofen and prothioconazole has shown greater efficacy in controlling FHB and reducing the contamination of harvested grains with deoxynivalenol (DON) compared to current fungicides. This provides cereal growers with an additional tool to manage FHB within an integrated pest management (IPM) program, resulting in increased spray application flexibility and decreased fungicide resistance selection pressure.

Toxicity, bioactivity of triazole fungicide metconazole and its effect on mycotoxin production by Fusarium verticillioides: New perspective from an enantiomeric level

Chaofeng Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically assessed the stereochemical isomers of chiral triazole fungicide metconazole, revealing enantioselective toxicity towards aquatic organisms and effects on the pathogen Fusarium verricillioides. Among the four stereoisomers, (1S,5R)-metconazole exhibited the highest fungicidal activity.

Baseline sensitivity of Fusarium graminearum from wheat, corn, dry bean and soybean to pydiflumetofen in Michigan, USA

Mikaela Breunig et al.

Summary: A new Succinate Dehydrogenase Inhibitor (SDHI) fungicide has been registered for managing Fusarium Head Blight of wheat and corn ear rot by Syngenta in Switzerland. Sensitivity of Fusarium graminearum isolates from different crops in Michigan to this new active ingredient was determined, showing inhibition of mycelial growth and spore germination in vitro. This study establishes baseline sensitivity values for Michigan populations of F. graminearum before widespread application of the chemistry on commercial fields.
