Lack of fitness costs in dsRNA-resistant Leptinotarsa decemlineata ([Coleoptera]: [Chrysomelidae])

M. M. D. Pinto et al.

Summary: In this study, no fitness costs were found in a dsRNA-resistant colony of the Colorado potato beetle, compared to the parental strain and a susceptible reference strain. This information is crucial for effective insect resistance management plans for dsRNA insecticides applied topically to potato leaves.

First Sprayable Double-Stranded RNA-Based Biopesticide Product Targets Proteasome Subunit Beta Type-5 in Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)

Thais B. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: The Colorado potato beetle is a major pest of potato and other solanaceous vegetables in the Northern Hemisphere. Ledprona, a new biopesticide, has shown to be effective in controlling the beetle in laboratory assays. Its efficacy has been demonstrated in a whole plant greenhouse trial and it represents a new class of biopesticides for integrated pest management and insecticide resistance management programs against the CPB.

Selection for high levels of resistance to double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) in Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say) using non-transgenic foliar delivery

Swati Mishra et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the CEAS 300 population of Colorado potato beetle has developed over 11,100-fold resistance to a dsRNA targeting the V-ATPase subunit A gene through non-transgenic delivery. Resistance to dsRNA in CEAS 300 is transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait and is polygenic, representing the first documented case of resistance in an insect pest with high pesticide resistance potential using dsRNA delivered through non-transgenic techniques. Information on the genetics of resistance and availability of dsRNA-resistant L. decemlineata guide the design of resistance management tools and allow research to identify resistance alleles and estimate resistance risks.
