Transfer learning for high-dimensional linear regression: Prediction, estimation and minimax optimality

Sai Li et al.

Summary: This paper explores estimation and prediction of high-dimensional linear regression in transfer learning, utilizing auxiliary samples from related regression models. With known informative auxiliary studies, optimal estimator and predictor are proposed, showing faster convergence rates compared to not using auxiliary samples. When the informative auxiliary samples are unknown, a data-driven transfer learning procedure called Trans-Lasso is introduced, demonstrating robustness to non-informative samples and efficiency in knowledge transfer. The procedures are applied to gene expression data, showcasing improved prediction performance by incorporating data from different tissues as auxiliary samples.

Cross-domain structure learning for visual data recognition

Yuwu Lu et al.

Summary: Unsupervised domain adaptation methods are used to train an effective model that can solve tasks in an unlabeled target domain by utilizing knowledge from a labeled source domain. This article proposes a cross-domain structure learning method that incorporates global distribution alignment and local discriminative structure preservation to capture common underlying features between domains. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Weighted Correlation Embedding Learning for Domain Adaptation

Yuwu Lu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel domain adaptation method called weighted correlation embedding learning (WCEL) for image classification. By seamlessly integrating correlation learning, graph embedding, and sample reweighting, the proposed method addresses the issues of neglecting specific task content and suffering from negative transfer in most existing domain adaptation methods. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the WCEL method over other domain adaptation algorithms in image classification tasks.

Manifold Transfer Learning via Discriminant Regression Analysis

Yuwu Lu et al.

Summary: The paper proposed a novel transfer learning method for image classification, MTL-DRA, which transfers local geometry structure information from the source domain to the target domain and ensures the robustness or sparsity of the transform matrix. By introducing between- and within-class graphs to preserve within-class similarity and reduce between-class similarity, MTL-DRA overcomes noise disturbance and avoids negative transfer learning, demonstrating better performance than state-of-the-art methods in extensive experiments on five public image benchmarks.
