Non-coding RNAs underlying the pathophysiological links between type 2 diabetes and pancreatic cancer: A systematic review

Fariba Dehghanian et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer due to complex genetic and environmental factors, with metabolic abnormalities possibly playing a key role. Shared molecular events, such as metabolic and mitogenic pathways, as well as non-coding RNAs, may be powerful tools in understanding this relationship.

CircWHSC1 expedites cervical cancer progression via miR-532-3p/LTBP2 axis

Yan Li et al.

Summary: Dysregulated circRNAs, such as circWHSC1, play potential roles in the progression of cervical cancer (CaCx). In this study, circWHSC1 was found to be overexpressed in CaCx tissues and cell lines, and its overexpression was associated with poor survival rate. Silencing of circWHSC1 suppressed the proliferation, metastasis, and invasion of tumor cells, while inducing apoptosis. It was further revealed that circWHSC1 acted as a competitive endogenous RNA, regulating the expression of LTBP2 by targeting miR-532-3p. In vivo experiments confirmed the inhibitory effects of circWHSC1 knockdown on tumor growth and metastasis. The circWHSC1-mediated miR-532-3p/LTBP2 signaling axis may serve as a novel therapeutic target for CaCx.

CircWHSC1 serves as an oncogene to promote hepatocellular carcinoma progression

Summary: CircWHSC1 promotes tumor growth in HCC by upregulating HOXA1 through sponging miR-142-3p. Inhibition of miR-142-3p can alleviate the effects of circWHSC1 knockdown on HCC cell proliferation and metastasis. CircWHSC1 may serve as a potential diagnostic biomarker for HCC as it is elevated in HCC patients' serum.

CircMEMO1 modulates the promoter methylation and expression of TCF21 to regulate hepatocellular carcinoma progression and sorafenib treatment sensitivity

Zhao-Ru Dong et al.

Summary: This study revealed that circMEMO1 is significantly downregulated in HCC samples and is closely related to the survival of HCC patients. Mechanistic analysis showed that circMEMO1 can modulate TCF21 gene expression and increase HCC cell sensitivity to sorafenib treatment, indicating its role as an important epigenetic modifier in HCC progression.

CircRNA WHSC1 promotes non-small cell lung cancer progression via sponging microRNA-296-3p and up-regulating expression of AKT serine/threonine kinase 3

Fengfeng Shi et al.

Summary: This study found that circWHSC1 is significantly up-regulated in NSCLC patients and is associated with poor prognosis. CircWHSC1 acts as a ceRNA of miR-296-3p to up-regulate AKT3 and promote NSCLC cell growth and metastasis. Targeting circWHSC1 might be a potential strategy for NSCLC diagnosis, therapeutics, and prognosis.

CircRNA_0000429 Regulates Development of NSCLC by Acting as a Sponge of miR-1197 to Control MADD

Jun-Yan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that circ_0000429 expression was significantly upregulated in NSCLC, and knockdown of circ_0000429 significantly inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Circ_0000429 acted as a sponge for miR-1197, promoting MADD expression in NSCLC cells, demonstrating its carcinogenic role in NSCLC tumorigenesis.
