The emerging crosstalk between atherosclerosis-related microRNAs and Bermuda triangle of foam cells: Cholesterol influx, trafficking, and efflux

Harun Achmad et al.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is characterized by the gradual buildup of lipid particles in damaged arteries, leading to cholesterol accumulation and foam cell formation. Foam cell formation is regulated by various mechanisms, including the role of epigenetic factors such as microRNA alteration. Recent studies have focused on the potential interplay between microRNAs and foam cell formation in atherosclerosis, but further research is needed. This review examines the underlying processes of foam cell formation and microRNA crosstalk to provide insights into therapeutic implications in atherosclerosis.

Summary: Numerous chronic diseases are caused by inflammation, and flavonols have shown potent anti-inflammatory properties in various models. The natural flavonol galangin (GAL) has the ability to control apoptosis and inflammation by suppressing ERK and NF-kappa Bp65 phosphorylation. GAL has been used to treat arthritis, inflammatory bronchitis, stroke, and cognitive dysfunction. This review aims to demonstrate the anti-inflammatory properties of GAL and its protective effects in the treatment of various chronic illnesses.

Association between Intestinal Microecological Changes and Atherothrombosis

Xinyu Zhuo et al.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that leads to cardiovascular diseases such as ischemic heart disease, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease. Recent studies have highlighted the importance of intestinal microecological disorders in the development of atherosclerosis. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide and metabolites like oxidized trimethylamine and short-chain fatty acids play a role in the development of atherosclerosis by affecting inflammatory response, lipid metabolism, and blood pressure regulation. Intestinal microecology also promotes the progression of atherosclerosis by interfering with normal bile acid metabolism. This review summarizes the correlation between maintaining a dynamic balance of intestinal microecology and atherosclerosis, which may have potential implications for its treatment.

The endothelial-enriched lncRNA LINC00607 mediates angiogenic function

Frederike Boos et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNA LINC00607 is highly enriched in human endothelial cells and plays a regulatory role in angiogenesis by interacting with chromatin remodeler BRG1 to maintain ERG target gene transcription. Knockdown or knockout of LINC00607 attenuates VEGF-A-induced angiogenic sprouting and integration into vascular networks. Overexpression of LINC00607 restores normal endothelial function. These findings provide new insights into the role of lncRNAs in endothelial cells and their potential implications in cardiovascular disease.
