LncRNA SNHG17 promotes the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma by modulating miR-375/PAX6 axis

Fei Tong et al.

Summary: The overexpression of lncRNA SNHG17 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was found to accelerate tumor cell proliferation and metastasis while inhibiting apoptosis. SNHG17 reduces the expression of miR-375 by sponging it, resulting in enhanced expression of PAX6. Therefore, SNHG17 acts as an oncogenic lncRNA in OSCC by modulating these pathways.

Liquid Biopsy as a Tool for the Characterisation and Early Detection of the Field Cancerization Effect in Patients with Oral Cavity Carcinoma

Elisabeth Perez-Ruiz et al.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for about 25% of all head and neck cancers, with tobacco and alcohol consumption being the main risk factors. The field cancerization effect of OSCC contributes to poor survival rates. Despite some progress, characterization and early diagnosis of OSCC remain challenging in modern oncology, and improving prognosis is still a goal to be achieved. Liquid biopsy has been proposed as a new early diagnostic tool for OSCC, showing promising data for early detection of relapses or second tumors through blood and saliva analysis.
