High pyrethroid-resistance intensity in Culex quinquefasciatus (Say) (Diptera: Culicidae) populations from Jigawa, North-West, Nigeria

Ahmed Idowu Omotayo et al.

Summary: This study examined the intensity and mechanisms of pyrethroid resistance in Culex quinquefasciatus populations from North-West Nigeria. The results showed high intensity and widespread resistance to pyrethroids, posing a major threat to the control of diseases transmitted by Culex and other mosquito species.

Summary: The study found that screening can significantly reduce indoor mosquito densities, while EaveTubes had no significant impact on indoor mosquito density, but could provide community benefits. Combining screening and EaveTubes can create a 'Lethal House Lure'.

Insecticide Resistance Patterns and Mechanisms in Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) Populations Across Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire Reveal Emergent Pyrethroid Resistance

Lucien Yao Konan et al.

Summary: The study found that Aedes aegypti populations in Abidjan exhibited varying degrees of resistance to multiple insecticides, with potential involvement of increased oxidase activity in conferring resistance. Three kdr mutations were identified in the populations tested, with high frequency of the Cys1534 allele. These findings will inform future arbovirus vector control activities in Abidjan.

High insecticide resistance mediated by different mechanisms in Culex quinquefasciatus populations from the city of Yaounde, Cameroon

Abdou Talipouo et al.

Summary: The study in Yaounde, Cameroon, revealed high resistance of Culex quinquefasciatus populations to bendiocarb and malathion, as well as to permethrin and deltamethrin. Molecular analyses identified various mechanisms of insecticide resistance, including mutations and gene overexpression. The findings underscore the importance of implementing integrated vector control strategies in urban environments to combat insecticide resistance in Culex populations.
