The effectiveness of conservative interventions for the management of syndromic hypermobility: a systematic literature review

Shea Palmer et al.

Summary: Syndromic hypermobility disorders, such as hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, are characterized by excessive joint range of motion and pain. Conservative management, primarily through exercise, has shown some improvements in symptoms but there is weak evidence of its superiority over other treatments. More robust randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of whole-body conservative management.

Updates on the psychological and psychiatric aspects of the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and hypermobility spectrum disorders

Andrea Bulbena-Cabre et al.

Summary: The field of psychiatric and psychological aspects of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) has been historically overlooked, but recent research is enhancing our understanding of the disorder, particularly its relationship with conditions like anxiety disorders. There are significant associations between EDS and anxiety, neurodevelopmental, eating, mood, and sleep disorders, as well as emerging evidence of a link with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The broad spectrum of human anxiety and associated somatic symptoms seems to be central to the psychopathology of EDS, offering a new opportunity for the development of more inclusive psychiatric classifications.
