Synthesis and Fluorescent Properties of Alkynyl- and Alkenyl-Fused Benzotriazole-Derived ?-Amino Acids

Leanne M. Riley et al.

Summary: Describes the synthesis and fluorescent properties of benzotriazole-derived alpha-amino acids that mimic L-tryptophan. Alkynyl-substituted analogues were prepared using nucleophilic aromatic substitution, benzotriazole formation via diazotization and cyclization, and a Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. E-Alkenyl-substituted benzotriazoles were accessed by hydrogenation of alkynes. The alkynyl analogues showed higher quantum yields, stronger brightness, and solvatochromic sensitivity to polarity.

Effective enantioselective recognition by steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy: Towards a paradigm shift to optical sensors with unusual chemical architecture

Natali P. Debia et al.

Summary: A series of amino acid-derived 1,2,3-triazoles connected by a triazole-4-carboxylate spacer were studied for enantioselective recognition using steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy. Optical sensing was performed with chiral analytes, and the sensors showed specific interactions and photophysical responses with each pair of enantiomers. DFT calculations confirmed the specific interaction between the fluorophores and the analytes, supporting the observed high enantioselectivity of these compounds.

Small Fluorogenic Amino Acids for Peptide-Guided Background-Free Imaging

Fabio de Moliner et al.

Summary: The multiple applications of super-resolution microscopy have led to the need for minimally invasive labeling strategies for peptide-guided fluorescence imaging. In this study, we have built a library of benzodiazole amino acids and examined their potential as background-free fluorescence microscopy probes. The results show that benzodiazole amino acids retain the binding capabilities of bioactive peptides and exhibit excellent signal-to-background ratios.

Miniaturized Chemical Tags for Optical Imaging

Sam Benson et al.

Summary: Recent progress in optical bioimaging has led to the demand for minimal chemical reporters that can preserve the properties and activities of biomolecules. Various approaches have been developed to reduce the size of fluorescent and Raman labels to a few atoms and incorporate them into building blocks to form native-like supramolecular structures. This integration of small optical reporters into biomolecules has enabled the creation of previously inaccessible smart molecular entities, greatly expanding their applications in biological imaging.

One-pot synthesis of N-substituted benzannulated triazoles via stable arene diazonium salts

Rochelle McGrory et al.

Summary: A mild and effective one-pot synthesis method has been developed for 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4(3H)-ones and benzothiatriazine-1,1(2H)-dioxide analogues. The method is compatible with a wide range of functional groups and substituents and has been successfully applied for the synthesis of pharmaceutically important targets.

Dual emission in purely organic materials for optoelectronic applications

Nadzeya A. Kukhta et al.

Summary: The study focuses on purely organic molecules that emit light by dual emissive pathways, emphasizing the importance of understanding the relationship between molecular structure and photophysical processes. Categorizing types of dual emissive based on spin multiplicity and emission time range, recent experimental advances and design rules for novel candidates are outlined, providing opportunities for new materials synthesis and future innovations in this area.
