Catalytic Desymmetric Dicarbofunctionalization of Unactivated Alkenes

Xianqing Wu et al.

Summary: This study presents a nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling reaction for the desymmetric dicarbofunctionalization of 1,6-dienes. By leveraging an underdeveloped chiral ligand, the reaction selectively forms pyrrolidinones bearing two nonadjacent stereogenic centers, enabling rapid synthesis of complex chiral fused-heterocycles.

Asymmetric Formal Nucleophilic o-Cresolylation with Morita-Baylis-Hillman Carbonates of 2-Cyclohexenones via Palladium Catalysis

Xue Song et al.

Summary: In this study, an asymmetric formal nucleophilic o-cresolylation reaction using palladium catalysis was reported. The reaction involved the generation of electron-neutral and HOMO-raised eta(2)-Pd(0)-dienone complexes, followed by vinylogous addition and a cascade of isomerization/elimination/aromatization processes. The use of a bulky chiral phosphonamidite ligand achieved moderate to excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivity, allowing facile access to diverse enantioenriched architectures. Control experiments provided detailed insights into the catalytic reaction pathway.

Asymmetric inverse-electron-demand 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions of cyclopentadienones and thiophene-1,1-dioxide with C,N-cyclic azomethine imines

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the normal 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between the carbonates of 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenones and C,N-cyclic azomethine imines was switched to an inverse-electron-demand version under Pd(0) catalysis. This transformation was achieved by in situ generation of HOMO-raised eta(2)-Pd(0)-cyclopentadienone complexes. The researchers constructed a variety of fused heterocyclic architectures with high levels of diastereo and enantioselectivity. Furthermore, diastereodivergent synthesis was realized by tuning the bifunctional phosphine ligands. A similar reaction with in situ formed thiophene-1,1-dioxide was also compatible by using a chiral bisphosphine ligand, leading to the formation of fused cyclic sulfone frameworks with high stereoselectivity.

Xing-Xing Yang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that carbonates of 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenones can form unique palladium complexes for inverse-electron-demand aza-Diels-Alder reactions, along with the synthesis of chiral cycloadducts through cross Rauhut-Currier addition. Additionally, new chiral ligands have been developed for high stereoselectivity even with racemic substrates.

Enantioselective Inverse Electron Demand (3+2) Cycloaddition of Palladium-Oxyallyl Enabled by a Hydrogen-Bond-Donating Ligand

Yin Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for enantioselective (3 + 2) cycloaddition reactions between palladium-oxyallyl species and electron-deficient nitroalkenes. The transformation, enabled by a hydrogen-bond-donating ligand (FeUrPhos) and an inverse electron demand pathway, allows for the assembly of cyclopentanones with up to three contiguous stereocenters with high enantioselectivity.

Summary: The stereoselective annulation of alpha-oxocarboxylic acids with 1,3-dienes using a hydroxoiridium catalyst leads to alpha-hydroxy-gamma-lactones with high 3,5-trans relative stereochemistry. Asymmetric annulation with high enantioselectivity is achieved by using a chiral diene ligand for a cationic iridium complex.
