Wide-angle and simultaneously wideband blazing (deflection) enabling multifunctionality in metagratings comprising epsilon-near-zero materials

Andriy E. Serebryannikov et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the diffraction phenomena of gratings made of a dispersive material in an epsilon-near-zero regime and having one-side corrugations, as well as those of two-component dielectric-ENZ gratings with inner corrugations and flat outer interfaces. The goal is to achieve wideband and simultaneously wide-angle -1st order blazing for wideband spatial filtering and demultiplexing in reflection mode. The study demonstrates the high capability of ENZ and dielectric-ENZ gratings in asymmetric reflection for different levels of losses.

Near-zero-index platform in photonics: tutorial

Larissa Vertchenko et al.

Summary: The rise of photonics is driven by the need for miniaturization and faster communications, with the promise of high-speed and low-heat light circuits. Near-zero-index materials have attracted attention due to their unique electromagnetic properties, including electric field enhancement and extraordinary transmission in photonic waveguides. In such materials, light propagates with constant phase, showing promise for quantum photonics where information is preserved instead of degraded by the environment. However, realizing these properties remains challenging due to the specific geometries required by the effective medium theory.

Hermitian and Non-Hermitian Dirac-Like Cones in Photonic and Phononic Structures

Jie Luo et al.

Summary: Accidental degeneracy plays a vital role in the generation of novel band dispersions. Structures exhibiting accidental Dirac-like conical dispersion at the center of the Brillouin zone can have unique features, such as zero-index behavior and wave tunneling. Introduction of non-Hermiticity in the system can lead to appearance of exceptional points and various other unique dispersions. Similar phenomena are observed in phononic structures.
