Polarization-duplexing of a ytterbium-doped fiber mode-locked laser with an intracavity birefringent crystal

Pengye Song et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the polarization-duplexing effect of an ytterbium-doped fiber mode-locked laser with an intracavity birefringent crystal in all-normal-dispersion. The laser generates two asynchronous pulse trains with slightly different repetition rates, orthogonally crossed polarization, and colinear beams. The optical spectra overlap significantly. A tuning of the repetition rate difference ranging from 3.7 to 8.6 kHz is achieved by adjusting the birefringence in the fiber. This laser provides a platform for exploring compact fiber dual-comb lasers with tunable repetition rate differences.

Polarization-multiplexed, single-cavity dual-comb fiber laser based on a birefringent crystal and a saturable absorber

Xiaorong Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, a calcium carbonate birefringent crystal was incorporated into an Er-fiber laser mode-locked by a saturable absorber, resulting in the generation of dual-comb ultrashort pulses with orthogonal polarization. The polarization contrast ratios of the two ultrashort pulse trains were measured to be 30 dB and 20 dB, indicating that the dual-comb mode-locking was achieved through the polarization-multiplexing mechanism. The dual-comb ultrashort pulses had central wavelengths of 1564.41 nm and 1564.51 nm, and pulse durations of 825 fs and 805 fs respectively.

Single-cavity dual-comb fiber lasers and their applications

Jianjun Yang et al.

Summary: Single-cavity, dual-comb lasers are mode-locked lasers that can emit multiple asynchronous ultrashort pulse trains with stable repetition frequency difference. Despite sporadic reports of similar phenomena, systematic investigation on these lasers and their applications only began around a decade ago, based on the fiber laser platform. This review article summarizes the current schemes to implement single-cavity dual optical frequency comb fiber lasers and discusses their characteristics and applications.

Fast dual-comb spectroscopy based on a dual-wavelength all-fiber ring laser with high repetition rate

Yan Li et al.

Summary: We present a fast dual-comb spectroscopy technique utilizing a high-repetition-rate dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser with a significant repetition rate difference. It can operate in three different dual-wavelength states with repetition rate differences of 4.32, 2.74, and 3.635 kHz, respectively. The corresponding refresh time can be as low as 231 μs, making it the fastest in dual-comb spectroscopy using a single-mode-locked all-fiber laser. The high repetition rate of approximately 154.68 MHz provides a maximum optical frequency bandwidth of 4.37 THz. Dual-comb spectroscopy was employed to measure the transmittance curve of a Fabry-Perot etalon.

G. Q. Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the emission of free-running dual-comb pulses with overlapping spectra and controlled repetition rate difference in a single birefringent fiber cavity. Various mechanisms for soliton formation are observed and validated, enabling switchable and tunable dual-comb pulse emissions. The study highlights the potential of simplifying the amplification system and single-cavity dual-comb source with overlapping spectra and passive mutual coherence between pulses.

Yoshiaki Nakajima et al.

Summary: This study proposes a mechanical sharing, dual-comb fiber laser with an all-polarization-maintaining cavity configuration and a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror mode-locking mechanism, which achieves highly correlated dual optical frequency combs with high relative stability. The laser setup simplifies dual-comb spectroscopy by suppressing common-mode noise through mechanical sharing of the laser cavity.

Phase-stable repetition rate multiplication of dual-comb spectroscopy based on a cascaded Mach-Zehnder interferometer

Haoyang Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, a passive all-fiber pulse delay method was demonstrated for repetition rate multiplication of dual-comb spectroscopy. By combining a cascaded Mach-Zehnder interferometer and digital error correction, a mode-resolved spectrum with improved acquisition speed and sensitivity can be obtained, without the need for sophisticated closed-loop feedback electronics. This technique offers a simple and effective solution to overcome the physical limitation of the repetition frequency of the frequency comb for phase-stable dual-comb applications.
