Chromium oxide film for Q-switched and mode-locked pulse generation

Lu LI et al.

Summary: This study explores the nonlinear optical characteristics and applications of chromium oxide (Cr2O3) in ultrafast optics. A microfiber decorated with a Cr2O3 film is prepared and its nonlinear optical characteristics are examined. The results show that this device has a modulation depth of 12.52% and a saturation intensity of 0.0176 MW/cm2. Moreover, the Cr2O3-microfiber is successfully applied as a saturable absorber in an Er-doped fiber laser, generating stable Q-switching and mode-locking laser pulses.

Preparation of High Damage Threshold Device Based on Bi2Se3 Film and Its Application in Fiber Lasers

Xiaowei Xing et al.

Summary: The low damage threshold of saturable absorption devices is a challenge for the stable operation of passive mode-locked lasers. Various technologies have been developed to resist high-energy irradiation of ultrafast lasers, but they also increase the complexity of laser construction. This paper proposes a new research idea of optimizing optical transmittance to address the low-damage threshold problem.

Ternary Transition Metal Dichalcogenides for High Power Vector Dissipative Soliton Ultrafast Fiber Laser

Lu Li et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the application of NbxRe(1-x)S2 nanosheets in ultrafast photonics. By incorporating the NbxRe(1-x)S2-microfiber saturable absorber into a net positive dispersion Er-doped fiber laser cavity, stable dissipative soliton pulses were generated. The NbxRe(1-x)S2-based mode-locked fiber laser demonstrated superior comprehensive performance compared to previous works based on 2D materials-based saturable absorbers.

Ultra-Small 2D PbS Nanoplatelets: Liquid-Phase Exfoliation and Emerging Applications for Photo-Electrochemical Photodetectors

Lingfeng Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, ultra-small 2D PbS nanoplatelets (NPLs) with uniform size were successfully fabricated using a liquid-phase exfoliation approach. The NPLs-based photodetectors (PDs) showed excellent photo-response performance, with high responsivity and detectivity, outperforming current PEC-type PDs. The outstanding properties of the NPLs were further analyzed through first-principle calculations, indicating promising applications in optoelectronic devices and potential breakthrough developments in other fields.

Stabilization of a Harmonic Mode-Locking by Shifting the Carrier Frequency

Dmitry A. Korobko et al.

Summary: Frequency shift in harmonically mode-locked soliton fiber lasers can increase the stability of interpulse interactions and lead to a stable periodic arrangement of pulses. The experimental results confirm the theoretical and numerical predictions of the stabilizing frequency shift effect in these lasers.
