Photonic Spin-Hall Effect at Generic Interfaces

Xiaohui Ling et al.

Summary: The physical origin of the photonic spin-Hall effect (PSHE) at optical interfaces is explored through studying the scatterings of circularly polarized beams obliquely incident on a series of junctions. The PSHE is determined by the interplay between the spin-redirection Berry (SRB) phase and the Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) phase. Shrinking the interfacial region can change the PSHE from SRB-dominated to PB-dominated.

Orbital angular momentum sidebands of Laguerre-Gauss beams reflecting on graphene metasurfaces

Zhiwei Xiao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the orbital angular momentum (OAM) sidebands of Laguerre-Gauss beams reflecting on graphene metasurfaces. The relative intensity of the OAM sideband modes varies depending on the Fermi energy, external magnetic field, and wave frequency. The research findings reveal that there is a small trough in the relative intensity of the sideband OAM modes for s-polarized beams at the topological transition point. This study is significant for understanding the applications of graphene metasurfaces in optical transmission and communication.

Generalized analytic formula for spin Hall effect of light: shift enhancement and interface independence

Minkyung Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, an explicit analytic formula for the spin Hall shift under arbitrarily polarized incidence is derived, and it is demonstrated that the spin Hall shift can be enhanced by using polarization degree of freedom. This analytic formula helps us understand the spin Hall effect under general polarization and achieve unprecedented modulation.

Incident-Polarization-Independent Spin Hall Effect of Light Reaching Half Beam Waist

Minkyung Kim et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that an interface with equal reflection coefficients and their derivatives with respect to the incident angle supports polarization-independent spin Hall shift, even when the beam waist is comparable to the wavelength. An isotropic-anisotropic interface exhibiting polarization-independent spin Hall shift over the entire range of incident angles is also presented. These findings are significant for practical spin-dependent devices and active beam splitters.

Quantum weak measurement of Goos-Hanchen shift in monolayer MoS2

Akash Das et al.

Summary: This study experimentally demonstrated the GH shift in monolayer molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) for a Gaussian beam using the quantum weak measurement scheme, showing its dependence on the angle of incidence. A comparison with single-layer graphene and plane glass-air interface was also conducted, revealing potential important applications of MoS2 in optical devices and sensor industry.

Spin-splitting in a reflective beam off an antiferromagnetic surface

Shu-Fang Fu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the splitting of two spin-components in the reflective beam off the antiferromagnetic surface caused by gyromagnetism and surface impedance mismatch. The results are useful for the manipulation of infrared radiations and infrared optical detection, indicating the key roles played by gyromagnetism and surface impedance mismatch in spin-splitting.

Spatial shifts of the reflective light beam off the metasurface of hyperbolic crystals

Hongyan Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, Goos-Hanchen and Imbert-Fedorov shifts of the reflective beam were investigated using a uniaxial hyperbolic crystal and metasurface structure. The results showed that the shift spectra from this structure were complex for differently polarized incident beams, and the coupling effect between the metasurface and hBN substrate was remarkable.

High-performance photonic spin Hall effect in anisotropic epsilon-near-zero metamaterials

Huifeng Chen et al.

Summary: A high-performance photonic spin Hall effect is demonstrated in an anisotropic epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) metamaterial based on the wave-vector-varying Pancharatnam-Berry phase, with strong spin-orbit coupling inducing separation of spin photons. The practical ENZ metamaterial proposed can still achieve a figure of merit of up to 0.006, providing an integrated and practical way for the development of spin photonic devices.

Enhanced optical spatial differential operations via strong spin-orbit interactions in an anisotropic epsilon-near-zero slab

Wenhao Xu et al.

Summary: A study reported a method to enhance the transmission efficiency of differential operations by introducing anisotropy, and discussed the mechanism of this optical calculation process. It was found that the conversion efficiency of differential operations depends on spin-orbit interactions, which can be strengthened by the proposed scheme, significantly improving transmission efficiency.
