Evaluation of photon shielding properties for new refractory tantalum-rich sulfides Ta9(XS3)2 alloys: A study with the MCNP-5

Summary: In this study, the MCNP-5 code was used to simulate the mass attenuation coefficient of a new series of refractory tantalum-rich sulfides Ta9(XS3). The simulated results showed a good correlation with the XCOM data, indicating the accuracy of the current results. The obtained MAC was used to derive different radiation parameters, and the results suggest that Ta9(XS3)2 alloys are promising for ionizing radiation shielding applications.

Impact of CdO on optical, structural, elastic, and radiation shielding parameters of CdO-PbO-ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 glasses

Summary: CdO-PbO-B2O3-SiO2-ZnO glasses with different compositions were prepared and their structural, optical, elastic, and radiation shielding properties were investigated. The addition of CdO resulted in slight changes in the internal structural units and significant changes in the optical, elastic, and radiation shielding properties of the glasses. These changes were attributed to the replacement of PbO by CdO, and it was found that the glass samples exhibited better radiation shielding ability than standard materials.

Impact of lead oxide on the structure, optical, and radiation shielding properties of potassium borate glass doped with samarium ions

Effects of bismuth substitution on the structural and ionizing radiation shielding properties of the novel BaSn1-xBixO3 perovskites: An experimental study

Summary: BaSn1-xBixO3 (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.20) polycrystalline perovskites were synthesized and investigated for their use in shielding against ionizing radiation. The samples showed a cubic structure with Pm3m space group. The measured mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) correlated reasonably well with the calculated data, indicating the potential application of BaSn1-xBixO3 ceramics in radiation shielding.

High density of tungsten gadolinium borate glasses for radiation shielding material: Effect of WO3 concentration

Summary: The aim of this work was to study the radiation shielding properties of different compositions of xWO(3):(70-x)Gd2O3:30B(2)O(3) (WGB) glasses. By comparing experimental results with theoretical predictions using the Compton scattering technique and simulation methods, the good performance of the detection system was confirmed. It was found that the density decreased and the MAC, Z(eff), and N-eff increased with increasing WO3 content, while they decreased with increasing energies. At a concentration of 40 mol%, the glass exhibited better shielding efficiency.

Assessment of radiation attenuation properties for novel alloys: An experimental approach
