Correlation between mechanical, gamma shielding features and tellurium oxide concentrations in molybdenum aluminum strontium borate glass

Mohammad A. Imheidat et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of replacing B2O3 with TeO2 in a glass system containing a fixed amount of Al2O3, MoO3, and SrO. The impact of adding TeO2 on radiation and mechanical properties was theoretically analyzed. The addition of TeO2 gradually reduced the packing density and the Young's longitudinal, shear, and bulk moduli. However, the density and shielding properties, such as mass attenuation coefficient, transmission factor, effective atomic number, radiation protection efficiency, charged particle range, etc., enhanced progressively with increasing TeO2 instead of B2O3. It can be concluded that adding TeO2 reduced the glass elasticity and enhanced radiation shielding features, suggesting potential applications in the gamma and charged particle shielding scope.

Summary: CdO-PbO-B2O3-SiO2-ZnO glasses with different compositions were prepared and their structural, optical, elastic, and radiation shielding properties were investigated. The addition of CdO resulted in slight changes in the internal structural units and significant changes in the optical, elastic, and radiation shielding properties of the glasses. These changes were attributed to the replacement of PbO by CdO, and it was found that the glass samples exhibited better radiation shielding ability than standard materials.

Summary: This paper investigates the significant improvements in the radiation shielding and optical properties of cadmium oxide and iron oxide sodium borate glasses by changing the CdO/B2O3 ratios. The results show that increasing CdO/B2O3 content leads to slightly decreased transparency and shifted absorption edges. The radiation shielding properties, such as mass attenuation coefficient and half-value layer, also show enhanced behaviors with additional CdO. These glasses are promising candidates in the radiation shielding field due to their enhanced properties.

Gamma-ray-induced changes in the radiation shielding, structural, mechanical, and optical properties of borate, tellurite, and borotellurite glass systems modified with barium and bismuth oxide

Awatif Alshamari et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of different gamma-ray doses and TeO2 ratios on the properties of borate glass modified with barium and bismuth oxide. The study shows that color changes occur in all glass samples under gamma-ray irradiation, with increasing doses causing darker colors. The glass structure remains stable with different doses, but there is a variation in intensity. Borate glass exhibits the highest mechanical properties and thermal stability, while the highest mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) is observed in borate glass samples against gamma doses. This suggests that borate glass has potential for use in radiation-shielding applications.
