Ubiquitous Near-Band-Edge Defect State in Rare-Earth-Doped Lead-Halide Perovskites

Tyler J. Milstein et al.

Summary: CsPb(Cl1-xBrx)3 nanocrystals and thinfilms doped with trivalent rare-earth ions (RE3+=Y3+,La3+,Ce3+,Gd3+,Er3+,Lu3+) were studied and found to exhibit a new and often-emissive defect state inside the perovskite band gap. The near-band-edge photoluminescence remains just below the excitonic luminescence for all compositions of CsPb(Cl1-xBrx)3. The shifting of this photoluminescence is attributed to the changing lattice dielectric constants and is discussed in relation to quantum cutting in Yb3+-doped CsPb(Cl1-xBrx)3.

Martina Pantaler et al.

Summary: Lead-free perovskites with lower dimensionality, such as (PEA)4AgBiBr8 and (PEA)2CsAgBiBr7, exhibit strong excitonic effects and a large Stokes shift, attributed to the soft character of the double-perovskite lattices. These findings have implications for the use of double perovskites in light-emitting applications, highlighting their potential in advanced optoelectronic devices.

Origin of Luminescence in Sb3+- and Bi3+-Doped Cs2SnCl6 Perovskites: Excited State Relaxation and Spin-Orbit Coupling

Habibul Arfin et al.

Summary: Sb3+ and Bi3+ doped Cs2SnCl6 zero-dimensional perovskites are stable and nontoxic phosphors for LEDs. The luminescence originates from the spin-orbit coupling of the s-electrons of the dopants and the ns(1)np(1) excited state. The different number of emission peaks in Sb3+ and Bi3+ doping is due to the interplay between Jahn-Teller distortion and spin-orbit coupling.

First-Principles Insights into the Stability Difference between ABX3 Halide Perovskites and Their A2BX6 Variants

Yanmeng Chu et al.

Summary: The stability difference between ABX(3) halide perovskites and A(2)BX(6) variants is primarily attributed to the stronger bonds and more stable surfaces of A(2)BX(6) compounds. Cs2SnCl6 exhibits stronger Sn-Cl bonds, a larger chemical window, and lower defect density compared to CsSnCl3, which contribute to its better stability.
