Bifunctional ratiometric sensor based on highly fluorescent nitrogen and sulfur biomass-derived carbon nanodots fabricated from manufactured dairy product as a precursor

Rasha M. K. Mohamed et al.

Summary: Novel biomass-derived carbon dots co-doped with nitrogen and sulfur were synthesized from milk powder and methionine precursors. The carbon dots were used for ratiometric fluorescence sensing of Cu (II) and risedronate sodium. The sensing platform showed high sensitivity and selectivity, detecting Cu (II) and risedronate sodium in a wide concentration range with low LODs. The system was successfully applied to determine Cu (II) and risedronate sodium in different sample matrices with good accuracy and precision.

Research Progress on Heavy Metals Pollution in the Soil of Smelting Sites in China

Muhammad Adnan et al.

Summary: Contamination by heavy metals in China has significant impacts on soil quality, food security, and human health. Mining and smelting activities release massive amounts of heavy metals into the environment, causing severe contamination and hazards to plants, soil organisms, and humans. Pb toxicity is particularly harmful to children. Novel approaches for controlling and reducing heavy metal pollution, such as hydrometallurgy and phytoremediation, offer potential solutions. However, environmentally friendly remediation of contaminated sites remains a challenge.

Altered electrochemistry of amiloride drug on boron-doped diamond electrode: Rapid and selective detection in urine by square-wave cathodic stripping voltammetry for application in doping control

Karla A. O. Souza et al.

Summary: A novel electroanalytical method using BDDE and SWCSV was developed for rapid, selective, and sensitive detection of AMI in urine samples. The complete electrochemical mechanism for AMI was proposed, and the analytical performance of the method is suitable for anti-doping testing in urine samples containing AMI. The recovery studies in human urine samples showed around 100% recovery, indicating the potential application of the method as a simple and rapid screening method for doping control of AMI.

Synthesis of photoactivated highly fluorescent Mn2+-doped ZnSe quantum dots as effective lead sensor in drinking water

Vineet Sharma et al.

Summary: In this study, manganese doped zinc selenide (Mn@ZnSe) quantum dots were prepared via a direct aqueous route, exhibiting high-intensity orange photoluminescence. The response of the quantum dots to different metals showed strong PL quenching by Pb2+ with detection limits of 29.8 x 10(-6) M in ultrapure water, indicating their potential as a non-toxic sensor for detecting hazardous lead in drinking water.

Hydrophilic AgInZnS quantum dots as a fluorescent turn-on probe for Cd2+ detection

Yongfeng Liu et al.

Summary: This study reports a one-step aqueous synthesis of more benign and hydrophilic AgInZnS quantum dots as a fluorescent probe for the detection of Cd2+ in aqueous solutions, with a detection range of 0.1-290 mu M and a lower limit of detection of 37.8 nM. The excellent turn-on detection of Cd2+ is attributed to the passivation of surface defects on the AgInZnS quantum dots by Cd2+, resulting in a prolonged fluorescent lifetime and increased photoluminescence quantum yield. Additionally, the AgInZnS quantum dot probe is capable of detecting Cd2+ in lake water samples and meets the WHO standard.
