Microstructures and properties of CrxFeNi(3-x)Al high-entropy alloys

Wen Zhang et al.

Summary: A set of Co-free high-entropy alloys with different compositions were fabricated and their solidification microstructures and compression properties were investigated. Different solidification microstructures were observed for different compositions, and the distribution of different phases in the alloys was studied. The strength of the alloys initially decreased and then increased with increasing Cr content, and the rise in strength was mainly attributed to solid solution strengthening, fine crystal strengthening, and precipitation of a certain phase.

The combination of high optical transparency and radiation shielding effectiveness of zinc sodium borate glasses by tungsten oxide additions

M. Sayyed et al.

Summary: The effect of tungsten oxide additions on the optical transparency and radiation shielding effectiveness of zinc sodium borate glasses was investigated. The results showed that the addition of tungsten oxide increased the transparency of the glasses and only the hexavalent tungsten state was present. Furthermore, tungsten oxide doping increased the refractive index, nonlinear refractive index, linear attenuation coefficient values, and decreased the half-value layer, making the glasses suitable for radiation shielding purposes.

R. A. Elsad et al.

Summary: The physical, linear optical, dielectric spectroscopy, and photon shielding properties of PVC doped with different levels of PbO nanoparticles were investigated. The density, optical band gap, refractive index, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss were found to be influenced by the concentration of PbO. Additionally, the attenuation coefficients and neutron shielding characteristics of the PVC-PbO nanocomposites were analyzed, showing potential for applications in optical, electronic, and radiation shielding fields.

Reevaluation of Cr6+ optical transitions through Gd2O3 doping of chromium-borate glasses

H. Y. Morshidy et al.

Summary: Chromium-doped borate glasses with gadolinium oxide additives were studied for their optical properties, revealing detachment of UV optical transitions and increased band gap energy. The compactness of the glassy network was enforced by the Gd2O3 additives, leading to blue shifts and high-energy optical transitions suitable for UV optics. The structural changes and enhanced properties indicate potential applications in UV optics such as digital photography and insect light traps.

Impact of bismuth oxide on the structure, optical features and ligand field parameters of borosilicate glasses doped with nickel oxide

S. F. Mansour et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of bismuth cations on the structural and optical properties of borosilicate glass doped with NiO. The addition of Bi2O3 results in the appearance of an absorption band at 380 nm, which overlaps with the Urbach edge. Furthermore, the values of the nonlinear third-order susceptibility and nonlinear refractive index increase with Bi2O3 doping, enhancing the stability and optical band gap of the BiBaNiB-glasses for practical applications.

FT-IR, ultrasonic and dielectric characteristics of neodymium (III)/erbium (III) lead-borate glasses: experimental studies

R. A. Elsad et al.

Summary: Lead-borate glasses reinforced by Er3+ and Nd3+ ions were fabricated and investigated for their physical, structure, ultrasonic mechanical, and dielectric properties. The introduction of Nd3+ and Er3+ ions caused changes in the local field on lead ions and formation of [PbO4] units. The addition of rare earth ions also affected the boron-boron separation, dielectric constant, and ac conductivity of the glasses.
