The exercise-induced suppression of acylated ghrelin is blunted in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle compared to the follicular phase following vigorous-intensity exercise

Sara C. Moniz et al.

Summary: Limited research has been conducted on the appetite-regulatory response to exercise in the follicular phase (FP) of the menstrual cycle. This study aimed to compare the appetite-regulatory response to vigorous-intensity continuous exercise (VICT) in the FP and luteal phase (LP). The findings suggest that acylated ghrelin levels were lower in the FP compared to the LP, but there were no differences in anorexigenic hormones or subjective appetite. However, energy intake was greater on the day of the session in the LP.

Leptin and energy balance: exploring Leptin's role in the regulation of energy intake and energy expenditure

Jessica A. L. Tucker et al.

Summary: Leptin is an important hormone for appetite regulation and energy balance. It interacts with various appetite-regulating hormones such as ghrelin, cholecystokinin, and GLP-1. The relationships between leptin and other neuropeptides are not well understood yet.

GLP-1 and hunger modulate incentive motivation depending on insulin sensitivity in humans

Ruth Hanssen et al.

Summary: Hunger increases incentive motivation in lean individuals, but not in obese individuals. The effect of hunger on motivation is influenced by peripheral insulin sensitivity. The application of GLP-1 analogues can attenuate the impact of hunger on motivation, depending on insulin sensitivity.
