The mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between diabetes self-management ability and patient activation in older adults with type 2 diabetes

Anqi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the level of diabetes self-management ability in older patients with type 2 diabetes and its relationship with patient activation. It also assessed the mediating effect of self-efficacy on this relationship. A cross-sectional design was used to recruit 200 elderly patients from the community of Yangzhou, China. The results showed a significant positive correlation between diabetes self-management ability and patient activation and self-efficacy. Self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between patient activation and self-management ability in older patients with type 2 diabetes.

Effectiveness of telemonitoring intervention on glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Jinxuan Cai et al.

Summary: This study reviewed randomized controlled trials on telemonitoring in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from 1990 to 2021. The results showed that telemonitoring can significantly reduce HbA1c compared to conventional care. However, there was no statistically significant difference in fasting blood glucose (FBG) among the studies. Additionally, technical features and patient factors such as system practicality, user engagement, patient characteristics, and disease education also influence the effectiveness of telemonitoring.

A path causal model in the association between self-efficacy and self-care with quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes: An application of the structural equation model

Fatemeh Fereydouni et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between self-care, self-efficacy, and the quality of life of diabetic patients. The results showed that self-care was associated with employment status, level of education, and body mass index, while quality of life was associated with economic status and place of residence. Self-efficacy beliefs had a positive and direct effect on both self-care and quality of life. The findings confirmed the hypothesized conceptual path model using the structural equation model.

Educational Interventions for Promoting Food Literacy and Patient Engagement in Preventing Complications of Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review

M. Savarese et al.

Summary: The review focuses on educational interventions to promote food literacy in type 2 diabetes patients, indicating that most interventions are heterogeneous in methodology, measures, and outcomes. It suggests that more attention should be given to the psychosocial characteristics of patient engagement as well as technological support. High-quality randomized controlled trials and longitudinal studies are lacking and needed to verify the efficacy of these insights.
