Investigations of nanofluid flow and heat transfer in a rotating microchannel using single- and two-phase approaches

Mohammad Mahmoodi et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effects of different models on laminar forced convection heat transfer and fluid flow of Al2O3/water nanofluid in a rotating U-shaped microchannel. The results show that increasing the volume fraction and rotational speed can enhance the slip velocity and heat transfer. The Eulerian-Eulerian model and Euler-Lagrange model provide higher total Nusselt numbers compared to the single-phase model. The maximum heat transfer enhancements are achieved by increasing the rotational speed from zero to 600 at a volume fraction of 5%.

Heat transfer characteristics of nanofluid under the action of magnetic field based on molecular dynamics and flow states

Xilong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates the changes in the heat transfer characteristics of Fe3O4-water magnetic nanofluid under different types of magnetic fields and the heat transfer mechanism using theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and experimental studies. By establishing dimensionless control equations and analyzing the variation pattern of the calculated values of the source terms under different boundary conditions, it is concluded that the enhanced heat transfer capability of the magnetic nanofluid is mainly due to the enhanced trend of Brownian motion and thermophoretic motion, where thermophoretic motion contributes slightly more to the heat transfer. The increase in Joule heat is the reason for the further enhancement of the heat transfer capability by the magnetic field.

Summary: This article presents a numerical study of non-Darcian nanofluid flow through a stretchable elastic surface. The study considers the fluid's viscosity, electrical conductivity, and propagation through a porous material. Heat radiation, Brownian motion, and viscous dissipation are also taken into account in the flow configuration. Mathematical modeling using similarity variables results in coupled nonlinear differential equations. Numerical solutions are obtained using the Keller-box approach and finite difference scheme in Matlab software. Tables are used to analyze and report physical quantities of interest.

Summary: This study explores the use of partially filled high porosity graded aluminum and copper foams to satisfy both heat transfer and pressure drop in a heat exchanger. Different configurations with positive and negative orientations are utilized to enhance heat transfer and reduce pressure drop. The results show that the decreasing graded foam achieves higher heat transfer rate and lower pumping power compared to the models without graded metal foam.

Optimizing energy generation in power-law nanofluid flow through curved arteries with gold nanoparticles

Bhupendra K. Sharma et al.

Summary: This study develops a mathematical model to investigate blood flow, entropy generation, and electro-kinetic energy conversion efficiency in curved arterial flow. The effects of various physical parameters, such as nanoparticle volume fraction, size, magnetic field intensity, flow behavior index, heat source, and chemical reaction parameter, on the blood flow velocity, temperature, concentration, EKEC efficiency, and entropy generation are analyzed. The findings indicate that the presence of nanoparticles and stenosis reduces the blood flow EKEC efficiency, while large-size nanoparticles increase flow velocity and entropy. The results of this study can be used to predict endothelial cell damage and plaque deposition in curved arteries with WSS profiles.

Numerical study on the effects of supercritical CO2-based nanofluid on heat transfer deterioration

Zenan Yang et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the effects of nanoparticles on the heat transfer performance of supercritical CO2. The results show that increasing the nanoparticle concentration further suppresses local temperature peaks and improves heat transfer enhancement. Detailed flow field analysis reveals that reducing the density gradient in the buffer layer significantly improves heat transfer performance, and the convective heat transfer benefits from the decreased specific heat and improved thermal conductivity of the nanofluid. High-density nanoparticles play a more effective role in mitigating the HTD phenomenon.
