Testing the predictive power of realistic shell model calculations via lifetime measurement of the 11/2+state in 131Sb

S. Bottoni et al.

Summary: The lifetime of the 11/2+1 state in the 131Sb nucleus was measured using gamma-ray fast-timing techniques. The obtained half-life value is the first result for this state in neutron-rich Sb isotopes, and it indicates a noncollective nature. Realistic shell-model calculations suggest a dominant 2+(130Sn) circle times pi g7/2 configuration for the state, pointing to a weak-coupling scenario. There is also a prediction of possible development of collectivity in the close neighborhood of 132Sn.

Emerging collectivity in neutron-hole transitions near doubly magic 208Pb

M. S. M. Gerathy et al.

Summary: Excited-state lifetimes were measured in three N = 125 isotones, showing almost identical transition energies for the first excited state to ground state transition. The role of protons as spectators increases along the isotone chain, with large-basis shell-model calculations underestimating the experimental values. The near-constant transition energies are attributed to complex nucleon-nucleon correlations enhancing quadrupole collectivity beyond the shell-model valence space.
