Dynamics of a vibro-impact self-propelled capsule encountering a circular fold in the small intestine

Yao Yan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamics of a vibro-impact capsule moving in the small intestine. It is found that the capsule always performs period-1 motion when the driving force is small, and fold crossing requires a large excitation amplitude. The inner mass, frictional coefficient, and fold's height have a significant influence on capsule's crossing motion.

Multi-objective optimisation based on reliability analysis of a self-propelled capsule system

Jiapeng Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the stability of a self-propelled capsule moving in the digestive tract and proposes a multi-objective optimization method. By adjusting the optimization parameters, the capsule achieves bi-directional motion and improves the reliability of energy consumption and impact force through reliability optimization. The research findings are of great significance for improving the self-propelled capsule system and its application in wireless endoscopy.

Certifiable Risk-Based Engineering Design Optimization

Anirban Chaudhuri et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the reliable and risk-averse design of complex engineering systems, introduces two notions of certifiability, and compares them with reliability-based design optimization. By satisfying these notions, certifiable risk-based design optimization can be achieved, effectively mitigating the adverse effects of choosing hard failure thresholds required in traditional methods.

Orientation selection of particles growing in an alloy melt

Guanjie Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of orientation selection of a particle in an alloy melt using the method of multiple scales. The results show that the orientation selection is influenced by the anisotropic interfacial energy and the initial concentration, leading to continuous orientation variations of the growing particle in the preferred growth direction.

Speed optimisation and reliability analysis of a self-propelled capsule robot moving in an uncertain frictional environment

Maolin Liao et al.

Summary: The dynamics of a self-propelled capsule robot for small-bowel endoscopy driven by internal vibro-impact excitation are studied. An optimization method combining Six Sigma and Multi-Island Genetic algorithms is used to maintain the robot's desired velocity in the uncertain frictional environment of the small bowel. Numerical studies and experimental verification show that the proposed method is effective in optimizing the robot's different motions.
