Traditional and non-traditional active nonlinear vibration absorber with time delay combination feedback for hard excitation

S. Mohanty et al.

Summary: In this work, a modified traditional and non-traditional active nonlinear vibration absorber (ANVA) is used to suppress the vibration of a base excited nonlinear spring-mass primary system subjected to simultaneous external hard harmonic and parametric excitations. The ANVA consists of a mass, time delayed damper, PZT stack actuator, and linear/nonlinear spring. The ANVA utilizes various combinations of time delayed displacement, velocity, and acceleration feedback gains for vibration reduction. The governing equations are derived and solved using the method of multiple scales, and the results are compared with numerical methods, showing good agreement. Parametric analyses are conducted to investigate stable and unstable regions of operating frequencies, and it is shown that 100% vibration reduction can be achieved for a certain range of operating frequencies.

Modeling and analysis of a novel multi-directional micro-vibration isolator with spring suspension struts

Tao Yang et al.

Summary: A novel spring suspension strut with quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) and zero-stiffness (ZS) properties is proposed to improve the performance of the multi-directional micro-vibration isolator in this work. The strut, based on a hexagon structure with negative stiffness mechanism, counteracts the positive stiffness of a vertical suspension spring while providing high loading capacity and equilibrium stability. The effectiveness of the micro-vibration isolator in all 6-degrees-of-freedom is notably improved by lowering the isolation frequency.

Summary: This study assessed the screening effectiveness of single barriers such as open trenches and sheetpiles, as well as the coupled open trench-sheetpile barrier. The results showed that the open trench and the coupled-wave barrier had similar isolation performance and outperformed the sheetpile in most test configurations. In cases where sheetpiles were already installed, the addition of an open trench in front of the sheetpile significantly improved the screening effectiveness.

A nonlinear quasi-zero-stiffness vibration isolation system with additional X-shaped structure: Theory and experiment

Yuanhao Xiong et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel nonlinear quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) vibration isolation system with high load carrying capacity. By connecting an X-shaped structure with a platform, the quasi-zero-stiffness vibration isolation system with additional X-shaped structure (X-QZS) is designed. The relationships of system restoring force and stiffness related to displacement are obtained by static modelling and the influences of the parameters on the system stiffness are analyzed. In the dynamic analysis, the amplitude-frequency characteristics and transmissibility curves are calculated. Numerical simulations and vibration experiments verify the accuracy of the calculation results. The designed X-QZS system exhibits a wide QZS interval, a small unstable interval, a low jump-down frequency, and a high load carrying capacity.
