Ranking influential spreaders based on both node k-shell and structural hole

Zhili Zhao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel ranking method called SHKS, which improves the k-shell decomposition method based on structural holes. SHKS not only identifies core nodes with large k-shell indices but also finds nodes with small k-shell indices that play an important role in bridging different parts of a network. Experimental results show that SHKS outperforms baseline methods in terms of Kendall Tau correlation results and has good performance in identifying the most influential top-k nodes.

Temporal Walk Centrality: Ranking Nodes in Evolving Networks

Lutz Oettershagen et al.

Summary: The article proposes a new centrality measure called Temporal Walk Centrality, which quantifies the importance of a node by measuring its ability to obtain and distribute information in a temporal network. Unlike traditional methods, this approach considers the temporal constraints of information dissemination and can identify nodes that play central roles in dissemination processes which cannot be detected by other centrality measures.

Characterizing cycle structure in complex networks

Tianlong Fan et al.

Summary: The paper introduces the concepts of the cycle number matrix and cycle ratio, which prove to be more effective in evaluating node importance compared to traditional indices through experiments. The cycle ratio outperforms other benchmarks in terms of network connectivity, synchronization, and maximizing the reach of spreading.

Percolation on complex networks: Theory and application

Ming Li et al.

Summary: In the last two decades, network science has flourished and influenced various fields from the perspective of the heterogeneous interaction patterns of complex systems. The percolation model, as a paradigm for random and semi-random connectivity, plays a key role in the development of network science and its applications. Concepts and analytical methods related to percolation theory are employed to quantify and solve core problems of networks, while insights into percolation theory also facilitate understanding of networked systems.

The fragility of opinion formation in a complex world

Matus Medo et al.

Summary: Researchers analyzed the impact of trust and distrust relationships on opinion formation through a network model, finding that opinion instability increases as the complexity and size of the system increase, and pointing out a potential mechanism for trust in deceptive sources. The results showed that increasing world complexity leads to increased inconsistency and instability of opinions, which can be prevented by expanding the observer's initial amount of information.

A multidimensional network link prediction algorithm and its application for predicting social relationships

Wang Guanghui et al.

Summary: This study explores the prediction of social network links in We the Media networks, introducing a multidimensional network link prediction algorithm that outperforms baseline methods. The research findings show that occupational environment significantly improves the accuracy of predicting user-node links, while social psychology diminishes accuracy.
