A comparison of lesion mapping analyses based on CT versus MR imaging in stroke

Margaret J. Moore et al.

Summary: This study compared lesion-mapping analyses based on CT and MRI and found differences in lesion location, overlap, and size. Both ROI-level and single-voxel simulations yielded similar results, suggesting that CT and MRI-derived lesion-symptom mapping results do not reliably differ in accuracy. This finding is important as it suggests that CT-derived lesion masks can be used in future studies.

Predicting post-stroke cognitive impairment using acute CT neuroimaging: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Emily L. Ball et al.

Summary: Research indicates that features seen on visual assessment of acute stroke computed tomography brain scans, such as white matter lesions, cerebral atrophy, and pre-existing stroke lesions, are strongly associated with post-stroke dementia. Additionally, white matter lesions are also linked to post-stroke cognitive impairment. Other computed tomography features either do not show association with cognitive outcomes or lack sufficient data. These findings highlight the importance of discussing this information with stroke survivors to address cognitive impairment following stroke.

Lesion symptom mapping of domain-specific cognitive impairments using routine imaging in stroke

Margaret Jane Moore et al.

Summary: This study investigated the neural substrates associated with 5 cognitive domains affected post stroke and demonstrated the validity of using routine clinical brain imaging and standard bedside cognitive screening data for lesion-symptom mapping. The results revealed distinct lesion patterns for different domains and identified distributed, bilateral functions for certain deficits. The study highlights the potential of using existing clinical data for future research.

Principal Component Analysis of Oxford Cognitive Screen in Patients With Stroke

Marco Iosa et al.

Summary: Cognitive deficits are common in stroke patients, and early identification is crucial for making appropriate care plans. The Oxford Cognitive Screen is a reliable tool for assessing cognitive deficits in stroke patients. Principal component analysis identifies major components related to different cognitive domains.

Validation of the UK English Oxford cognitive screen-plus in sub-acute and chronic stroke survivors

Sam S. Webb et al.

Summary: This study examined the psychometric properties of the Oxford Cognitive Screen-Plus (OCS-Plus) in English-speaking stroke survivors in the UK. The results showed that the OCS-Plus is a valid screening tool for detecting subtle cognitive impairments in stroke patients, outperforming standard clinical screening tools.

Predictors of Post-stroke Cognition Among Geriatric Patients: The Role of Demographics, Pre-stroke Cognition, and Trajectories of Depression

Christiana Kang

Summary: This study explored the longitudinal relationship between depression and cognition in geriatric stroke patients, identifying different trajectories of depression and their impact on post-stroke cognitive abilities. Factors such as pre-stroke cognition, demographics, and depression trajectories were found to be predictive of cognitive outcomes after stroke, emphasizing the need to consider the interplay between depression and cognition in this population.

Summary: The study found that both general cognitive impairment and domain-specific cognitive impairment poststroke were closely related to depressive symptoms, but not significantly associated with anxiety symptoms.
