Maturational trajectories of non-rapid eye movement slow wave activity and odds ratio product in a population-based sample of youth

Anna Ricci et al.

Summary: The study found that from childhood to adolescence, SWA shows a maturation decline, with females declining faster than males and more mature adolescents experiencing a more significant decrease in SWA. In contrast, the changes in ORP were not influenced by sex or pubertal status, showing a gradual increasing trajectory.

Role of corpus callosum in sleep spindle synchronization and coupling with slow waves

Giulio Bernardi et al.

Summary: Studies on patients with total callosotomy showed reduced inter-hemispheric propagation of sleep slow waves, but no systematic change in inter-hemispheric synchronization of sleep spindles was observed. This suggests a dependence of spindles on thalamo-cortical rather than cortico-cortical connections in humans, and that slow waves and spindles are independently regulated in terms of topographic expression.
