Neuronal hyperexcitability in the Tg2576 mouse model of Alzheimer?s disease-the influence of sleep and noradrenergic transmission

Anna B. Szabo et al.

Summary: We characterized epileptic events in the Tg2576 mouse model and explored the involvement of noradrenergic transmission in the pathological hypersynchrony. Our findings revealed the presence of epileptic events during REM sleep, with a high phase-locking to the theta cycle. We also discovered an antiepileptic mechanism of noradrenergic transmission through alpha 1-adrenoreceptors.

Effect of Levetiracetam on Cognition in Patients With Alzheimer Disease With and Without Epileptiform Activity A Randomized Clinical Trial

Keith Vossel et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that treatment with levetiracetam improved spatial memory and executive function tasks in patients with Alzheimer's disease and epileptiform activity, suggesting the need for further assessment of antiseizure approaches in AD.

Subclinical epileptiform activity accelerates the progression of Alzheimer's disease: A long-term EEG study

Andras Attila Horvath et al.

Summary: Subclinical epileptiform activity is more common in Alzheimer's disease patients than in healthy elderly individuals, and is associated with lower memory performance. Alzheimer's patients with epileptiform discharges show a faster decline in global cognitive scores, with a strong correlation between cognitive decline and spike frequency.

Upwards Drift of Cerebrospinal Fluid Amyloid-β 42 Over Twelve Years in a Consecutive Clinical Cohort

Anja Hviid Simonsen et al.

Summary: The study found a significant increase in A beta(1-42) levels in the cerebrospinal fluid over a period of twelve years, independent of changes in tau. Thus, awareness of this upward trend is crucial during diagnosis and selection of historical samples for research purposes.
