A Comparison among Different Ways to Investigate Composite Materials with Lock-In Thermography: The Multi-Frequency Approach

Ester D'Accardi et al.

Summary: The main goal of non-destructive testing is to detect defects early to prevent catastrophic failure, with a focus on aerospace structures. Active thermography for non-destructive testing allows for contactless, fast, remote, and cost-effective material and structure inspection. The study introduces a new multi-frequency software approach (MFS) based on lock-in thermography, and compares it quantitatively with traditional excitation methods, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the MFS approach.

A Convolution Residual Network for Heating-Invariant Defect Segmentation in Composite Materials Inspected by Lock-in Thermography

Davide Morelli et al.

Summary: This article proposes an automatic approach for segmenting inclusion defects in composite materials inspected by lock-in thermography (LT) in a heat source invariant way. Experimental results show that the method can achieve comparable performance across different heat source configurations and accurately segment defective areas.
