Analyzing void formation and rewetting of thin in situ-formed Li anodes on LLZO

Kiwoong Lee et al.

Summary: The stripping behavior of thin Li electrodes on solid electrolytes is investigated, showing that the accessible discharge capacity increases with lower current density and thicker Li anode. Two different mechanisms are identified for the stripping of thin Li electrodes depending on the current density. It is also demonstrated that the de-wetted Li/LLZO interfaces can be reestablished by thermal treatment.

Resistance to fracture in the glassy solid electrolyte Lipon

Sergiy Kalnaus et al.

Summary: This study investigated the resistance to cracking of solid Li-ion conductor Lipon through nanoindentation, revealing surprising ductility and recoverability in Lipon. In comparison to other inorganic solid electrolyte materials, Lipon accommodates stress via pile-up and densification rather than cracking.

Elucidating Interfacial Stability between Lithium Metal Anode and Li Phosphorus Oxynitride via In Situ Electron Microscopy

Zachary D. Hood et al.

Summary: The study reveals that a thin interface layer made of conductive binary compounds develops at the LiPON-Li interface upon contact, showing a unique spatial distribution that ensures electrochemical stability. This layer serves as an effective passivation layer, explaining the excellent cyclability of LiPON and resolving debates about the stability of the LiPON-Li interface.

Crystalline LiPON as a Bulk-Type Solid Electrolyte

Pedro Lopez-Aranguren et al.

Summary: A new bulk Li3.6PO3.4N0.6 crystalline polymorph has been prepared from low-cost precursors through a simple ball-milling procedure, exhibiting conductivity and electrochemical stability at high voltages. Its application in electrochemical devices has been demonstrated by stripping and plating lithium in a symmetric cell.
