Alternative energy and natural resources in determining environmental sustainability: a look at the role of government final consumption expenditures in France

Waseem Azam et al.

Summary: The global community is concerned about various environmental changes that have profoundly affected the surface of the Earth. This study examines the factors influencing environmental sustainability in France, using econometric analysis to determine the impact of alternative energy sources, natural resources, and government consumption expenditures on CO2 emissions. The findings support the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) theory, showing that as economic growth increases, environmental sustainability deteriorates initially, but eventually contributes to environmental improvement.

Environmental expenditure, policy stringency and green economic growth: evidence from OECD countries

Amir Arjomandi et al.

Summary: This study explores the link between environmental policy stringency and spending and the growth of environmental GDP and productivity. It reveals that government expenditure on environmental protection has a significantly stimulatory effect on national output in the short-term, but in the long run, tighter environmental policies and higher environmental expenditure may slow down 'green' GDP and productivity growth.

Do Stringent Environmental Policies and Business Regulations Matter for Economic Growth? Evidence from G7 and BRICS Economies

Nizamulmulk Gunes et al.

Summary: This study examines the influence of stringent environmental policies and business regulations on economic growth in the Group of Seven and BRICS economies between 2000 and 2015 using cointegration and causality analyses. The results indicate that business regulations have a significant impact on short-term economic growth, while stringent environmental policies show no significant effects during this time period. However, the cointegration analysis reveals a complex interaction among stringent environmental policies, business regulations, and economic growth depending on specific country characteristics.

Abundance of natural resources and environmental sustainability: the roles of manufacturing value-added, urbanization, and permanent cropland

Zahid Zahoor et al.

Summary: Sustainable management of natural resources and green urbanization are crucial for protecting the environment and addressing climate issues. This study found that natural resource abundance and permanent cropland have a negative impact on China's CO2 emissions, while urbanization and manufacturing value-added are negatively related to CO2 emissions. Policymakers are advised to promote sustainable usage of natural resources, develop sustainable communities, and collaborate with experts from various fields to drive green urbanization.

Assessing environmental quality through natural resources, energy resources, and tax revenues

Yanyan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of natural resources rent, energy resources consumption, and tax revenue on carbon emissions for developing countries. It finds that the exploitation of natural resources, excessive energy consumption, and economic growth contribute to high carbon emissions and environmental degradation, while tax revenue and education stabilize environmental quality.

Do stringent environmental and business regulations, and uncertainty matter for foreign direct investment inflows? Evidence from G7 and BRICS economies

Djula Borozan et al.

Summary: This paper empirically evaluates the impact of environment stringency policy, business regulations, policy and economic uncertainty, and real GDP per capita on foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. The results indicate that only the effect of real GDP per capita is homogeneous and statistically significant. Furthermore, more friendly business regulations encourage FDI inflows in the long run, but there is a bottom line. More stringent environmental regulations have a marginally adverse effect on FDI inflows in the long run and weakly support the pollution haven hypothesis.
