Antimicrobial, Cytotoxic, and a-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities of Ethanol Extract and Chemical Constituents Isolated from Homotrigona apicalis Propolis-In Vitro and Molecular Docking Studies

Diep Thi Lan Phuong et al.

Summary: The chemical investigation of Homotrigona apicalis propolis from Vietnam led to the isolation of nine compounds, including sesquiterpenes, triterpenes, and xanthones. Some compounds showed good antibacterial activity and cytotoxic effects against cancer cell lines. The binding affinity of xanthones with EGFR and HER2 was determined, and compounds showed potential α-glucosidase inhibitory activities.

Essential oil of Syzygium boisianum (Gagnep.) Merr. & LMPerry: Chemical compositions, antimicrobial activity, and molecular docking

Le Thi Huong et al.

Summary: The essential oil extracted from the Vietnamese Syzygium boisanum leaves was analyzed using GC/FID-MS. Forty-five compounds were identified, with sesquiterpene hydrocarbons being the major chemical class. The antimicrobial assay showed that the essential oil exhibited similar activity to streptomycin against three Gram-positive bacteria. Docking studies suggested that the major compounds in the essential oil could potentially inhibit bacterial DNA gyrase B.

Identifying the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory potential of dietary phytochemicals against diabetes mellitus type 2 via molecular interactions and dynamics simulation

Mohd Adnan Kausar et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify natural dietary phytochemicals for inhibiting alpha-glucosidase and their implications for type 2 diabetes. Among the 16 plant-derived compounds, bromelain, cholecalciferol, luteolin, and neohesperidin showed better binding interactions with alpha-glucosidase compared to acarbose. Molecular dynamics simulation and metabolic analysis suggested bromelain as a stable inhibitor and a potential therapeutic molecule for managing type 2 diabetes.
