Three years of weekly observations of coastal cliff erosion by waves and rainfall

A. P. Young et al.

Summary: The erosion of a 2.5 km-long sedimentary coastal cliff by waves and rainfall was studied over three years, revealing that erosion rates, incident wave heights, wave-cliff impacts, and rainfall were elevated during winters. The high temporal resolution of the multiyear dataset allowed for the separation of erosion from waves and rainfall, showing different correlations with upper and lower cliff erosion.

Wave-Induced Erosion of Soil Embankment in Laboratory Flume

Y. Ozeren et al.

Summary: Irrigation reservoirs in the Mississippi River floodplain are constructed using local soils with low clay content, making them susceptible to wave erosion. Laboratory experiments were conducted to quantify wave-induced erosion and retreat of cohesive embankments, leading to the development of an analytical model to predict embankment erosion and retreat rate. The model was calibrated using laboratory data and compared with field measurements, showing agreement between the two.

Study on failure mechanism of a plain irrigation reservoir soil bank slope under wind wave erosion

Zipeng Qin et al.

Summary: The study found that wind wave erosion leads to lateral retreat of reservoir soil bank slopes, forming vertical surfaces and causing slope failure. As time progresses, the stability safety factors show cyclical variation with erosion time.
