Heterostructured Mn-doped NiSx/NiO/Ni3N nanoplate arrays as bifunctional electrocatalysts for energy-saving hydrogen production and urea degradation

Peng Yi et al.

Summary: In this study, a Mn-doped NiSx/NiO/Ni3N nanosheets arrays catalyst was prepared through a simple hydrothermal and thiourea-assisted solid reaction. The catalyst exhibited outstanding hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and urea oxidation reaction (UOR) activities in alkaline urea electrolyte. As a UOR electrode, Mn-NiSx/NiO/Ni3N@NF showed a urea removal rate of up to 56% after continuous operation for 32 hours.

Revealing the In Situ Evolution of Tetrahedral NiMoO4 Micropillar Array for Energy-Efficient Alkaline Hydrogen Production Assisted by Urea Electrolysis

Zhao-Hua Yin et al.

Summary: The reconstruction of Ni2P and Mo2O72- on the surface greatly enhances the alkaline HER activity of P-NiMoO4. The additional Ni sites exposed and the adjustment of hydrogen adsorption facilitate HER kinetics. A UOR electrolyzer assembled with A-P-NiMoO4 as the cathode and P-NiMoO4 as the anode achieves impressive performance with a small cell voltage of 1.363 V for 10 mA cm(-2). This strategy holds promise for the rational design of highly active electrocatalysts for green hydrogen production.

Ultrathin Ce-doped La2O3 nanofilm electrocatalysts for efficient oxygen evolution reactions

Guangyuan Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, large-area ultrathin Ce-doped La2O3 nanofilms were successfully prepared with excellent OER performance, showing high mass activity compared to commercial IrO2 powders and undoped La2O3 nanofilms. The significant improvement in OER performance was attributed to the enhanced conductivity and electrochemical active surface areas of the nanofilms due to effective Ce doping strategy.

Surface and interface engineering of MoNi alloy nanograins bound to Mo-doped NiO nanosheets on 3D graphene foam for high-efficiency water splitting catalysis

Hualong Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of non-noble metal catalyst was designed by embedding MoNi alloy nanograins into Mo-doped NiO nanosheets, forming a MoNi@Mo-NiO@NGF composite. The composite material not only exhibited excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen/oxygen evolution reactions, but also had an ultra-low hydrogen evolution overpotential under alkaline conditions. This outstanding activity and stability can be attributed to the optimized surface electronic structure of MoNi alloy by Mo doping, the synergy interface interaction between MoNi nanograins and Mo-NiO substrate, and the high conductivity and corrosion resistance of the NGF support. This study provides a new strategy for the design of high-performance catalysts for overall water splitting.

Dynamic coordination transformation of active sites in single-atom MoS2 catalysts for boosted oxygen evolution catalysis

Nian Ran et al.

Summary: This study presents a strategy for designing 3d transition metal-oxygen complex single-atom catalytic sites to achieve high catalytic activity for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Through a dynamic coordination transformation, the active sites and adsorption-responsive orbitals are exposed, favoring the adsorption of oxidative intermediates and improving the OER catalytic activity.

Oxygen Evolution on MoS2 Edges: Activation through Surface Oxidation

Naiwrit Karmodak et al.

Summary: The catalytic activity of MoS2 with ZZ edges for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is influenced by surface sulfur coverages. The oxygenated ZZ-Mo edge with 0% S-coverage is found to be the most stable morphology for OER. Optimal two-site catalytic pathways on this edge significantly reduce OER overpotentials compared to basal plane and S-covered ZZ edges.
