Precise decomplexation of Cr(III)-EDTA and in-situ Cr(III) removal with oxalated zero-valent iron

Minzi Liao et al.

Summary: Oxalated zero-valent iron (Ox-ZVI) efficiently removes Cr(III)-organic complexes without producing toxic Cr(VI). It selectively breaks the Cr-O and Cr-N bonds of Cr(III)-EDTA complexes without generating Cr(VI), achieving 95.4% decomplexation and 94.2% removal of total Cr. The study highlights the importance of adjusting reactive species for precise pollutant control and provides a green and facile method for Cr(III)-organic complexes treatment.

Effects of tannic acid on the transport behavior of trivalent chromium in soils and its mechanism

Teng Xu et al.

Summary: Trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) and tannins, necessary substances in leather processing, coexist in tannery sites. Improper disposal leads to chromium contamination in site soils. This study investigates the complexation of tannic acid (TA) with Cr(III) and its influence on the solubility and sorption of Cr(III) in soils. The results show that Cr(III)-TA complexes have higher solubility and lower sorption capacity than free Cr(III), resulting in stronger mobility of Cr(III)-TA in soil columns.

Study of the synergistic effect of singlet oxygen with other plasma-generated ROS in fungi inactivation during water disinfection

Hangbo Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the efficiency and mechanism of yeast inactivation by cold atmospheric plasma (CAP). The results show that CAP treatment can significantly reduce yeast cell counts, with (OH)-O-center dot and O-1(2) playing a crucial role in yeast inactivation. Additionally, the synergistic effect of O-1(2) with other plasma-generated ROS is observed, leading to various cell death modes. The addition of L-His can mitigate cell damage and prevent necroptosis.
