Exciton polariton interactions in Van der Waals superlattices at room temperature

Jiaxin Zhao et al.

Summary: Monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) materials have unique properties and promising applications in optoelectronic devices. By vertically stacking TMD materials, researchers can control the electronic and optical properties. The integration of TMD heterostructures in planar microcavities is important for controlling light-matter interactions and forming robust polaritons. The authors demonstrate the systematic control of coupling strength by embedding multiple WS2 monolayers in a planar microcavity and observe the presence of long-living dark excitations.

Femtosecond Dynamics of a Polariton Bosonic Cascade at Room Temperature

Fei Chen et al.

Summary: Using femtosecond angle-resolved spectroscopic imaging technique, we visualize the ultrafast dynamics of polaritons in a one-dimensional ZnO whispering gallery microcavity and observe the ladder-form build-up processes of the polariton condensates. In addition, the measured second-order time correlation factor demonstrates the existence of bosonic cascades and reveals nonlinear polariton parametric scattering dynamics.

All-optical switching based on interacting exciton polaritons in self-assembled perovskite microwires

Jiangang Feng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates all-optical switching using propagating and strongly interacting exciton-polariton fluids in self-assembled CsPbBr3 microwires. Strong polariton-polariton interactions and extended polariton fluids with a propagation length of around 25 μm have been achieved, allowing for all-optical switching on/off of polariton propagation in picosecond time scale. The scalable self-assembly method highlights promising applications of solution-processed perovskites in integrated photonics operating in strong coupling regime.

Spin-orbit-coupled exciton-polariton condensates in lead halide perovskites

Michael S. Spencer et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates photonic analogs of SOC in exciton-polaritons and their condensates in birefringent lead halide perovskite single crystal microcavities. Anisotropy in the crystal coupled with mode splitting in the optical cavity leads to a non-Abelian gauge field, allowing exciton-polaritons to undergo phase transitions to competing condensates with orthogonal polarizations near degenerate points. These exciton-polaritons and condensates, unlike their pure photonic counterparts, inherit nonlinearity from their excitonic components, serving as potential quantum simulators for many-body SOC processes.

Optical switching of topological phase in a perovskite polariton lattice

Rui Su et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated a room temperature exciton polariton topological insulator and proved that polarization can be used as a degree of freedom to switch between different topological phases, showing strong immunity to perturbations. The study also showed that exciton polaritons can condense into topological edge states under optical pumping, providing an ideal platform for active topological polaritonic devices operating under ambient conditions.
