Advances of nanoparticles as drug delivery systems for disease diagnosis and treatment

Rui Liu et al.

Summary: Decades have passed since the approval of the first nanoparticles-based medicine for human cancer treatment, and research and development in nanoparticles for drug delivery have been continuing. Today, there have been significant advancements in nanoparticles, including liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, inorganic nanoparticles, micelles, nanovaccines, and nano-antibodies. These nanoparticles have shown great potential in the treatment and diagnosis of challenging diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, making them promising drug carriers and therapeutic agents in the future.

Tumor-Associated Macrophage and Tumor-Cell Dually Transfecting Polyplexes for Efficient Interleukin-12 Cancer Gene Therapy

Nasha Qiu et al.

Summary: A novel IL12 gene-delivery vector was designed to efficiently transfect both cancer cells and TAMs, turning them into a factory for IL12 production, which effectively activates anticancer immune responses and remodels the tumor microenvironment. The intravenously administered vector slows tumor growth and doubles survival in three animal models with minimal systemic toxicities.

Tumor metastasis: Mechanistic insights and therapeutic interventions

Mengmeng Liu et al.

Summary: Cancer metastasis, responsible for the majority of cancer-related deaths worldwide, is a complex process involving various cellular and molecular mechanisms. In addition to traditional treatments, targeted therapy and immunotherapy have emerged as new options for the treatment of metastatic cancer, although there is still great room for improvement in cancer survival rates.
