Probing the local dielectric function of WS2 on an Au substrate by near field optical microscopy operating in the visible spectral range

Oisin Garrity et al.

Summary: The optoelectronic properties of nanoscale systems are determined by their dielectric function, which is affected by various factors. Imaging local dielectric variations with dual s-SNOM allows for the extraction of dielectric function values. Experimental results are reliable and have been validated in contaminated samples.

Active control of micrometer plasmon propagation in suspended graphene

Hai Hu et al.

Summary: By visualizing plasmons in suspended graphene, we demonstrate the high-quality factor and long propagation length of graphene plasmons at room temperature. The height of the suspended graphene can be used as a tuning knob to control the plasmon wavelength and propagation length, enabling nanoscale energy flow modulation. This research opens up broad horizons for the application of suspended graphene plasmons in nano-photonic devices.

Periodical concentration of surface plasmon polaritons by wave interference in metallic film with nanocavity array

Xiaotian Xue et al.

Summary: Metallic thin films with nanocavity arrays provide ideal platforms for various applications such as plasmonics and non-linear optics. A study on the distribution of plasmonic hot spots over Ag thin films reveals that the concentration and interference of surface plasmon polaritons dominate the distribution. The localization of surface plasmonic resonance at nanocavities excites SPPs and leads to extremely strong near-field enhancements.
