High-Throughput Experimentation for Selective Growth of Small-Diameter Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes Using Ru-Promoted Co Catalysts

Brian M. Everhart et al.

Summary: The role of Ru promotion of Co catalysts in the growth of small-diameter SWCNTs is studied using the Autonomous Research System (ARES) and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that Ru-promoted Co catalysts significantly increase the selectivity of small-diameter SWCNTs at lower temperatures and stabilize the catalyst nanoparticles at higher temperatures. The study also reveals that the selectivity of small-diameter SWCNTs depends on both catalyst properties and feedstock type.

Multilayer graphene sunk growth on Cu(111) surface

Xinyue Dai et al.

Summary: This study proposes a theoretical model called the "sunk growth mode" to understand the growth of multilayer graphene on copper substrates. Extensive density functional theory calculations and molecular dynamic simulations confirm that the sunk growth mode is energetically favorable for multilayer graphene growth on Cu(111) compared to the on-terrace growth mode. Experimental investigations also support the validity of the sunk growth mode. This discovery provides a new and reasonable model for understanding the growth of underlayer graphene and has the potential to be applied to multilayer graphene growth on various substrates.

Group and Period-Based Representations for Improved Machine Learning Prediction of Heterogeneous Alloy Catalysts

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: Machine learning methods using geometrical representations of chemical environments show significant improvements in predicting adsorption energies on bimetallic alloy surfaces, with mean absolute errors around 0.05 eV for hydrogen adsorption and 0.10 eV for other strong binding adsorbates. The GP-based representations are robust in predicting adsorption on surfaces, elements, and alloys not in the initial training set, making them ideal for high-throughput materials discovery using active learning techniques with limited training data.
