Novel antimicrobial agents for combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria

Rachel Yoon Kyung Chang et al.

Summary: The rise of antibiotic resistance has made antibiotic therapy ineffective against bacterial infections. ESKAPE pathogens, which exhibit high levels of resistance, pose a major global health threat. Novel antimicrobial therapeutic strategies, including bacteriophages, enzymes, immunomodulators, and monoclonal antibodies, are urgently needed to address this issue.

Conjugating Peptides onto 1D Rodlike Bionanoparticles for Enhanced Activity against Gram-Negative Bacteria

Guocheng Xie et al.

Summary: By conjugating peptides onto tobacco mosaic virus, the resulting nanoparticles show significantly enhanced antibacterial effects against Gram-negative bacteria. The high osmotic pressure and reactive oxygen species generated by the peptide-TMV cause the death of Escherichia coli, while also downregulating biofilm-related genes to inhibit biofilm formation. This study opens up new possibilities for combating Gram-negative bacteria-related infections.
