Nanotubes from Ternary WS2(1-X)Se2X Alloys: Stoichiometry Modulated Tunable Optical Properties

M. B. Sreedhara et al.

Summary: Nanotubes of transition metal dichalcogenides offer unique properties and potential applications. Replacing sulfur by selenium can yield ternary nanotubes with strong modulation in absorption edge. Solid oxide nanowhiskers were used as a sacrificial template to obtain high yield nanotubes. The nanotubes showed modulated lattice structure and chemical composition, exhibiting strong light-matter interactions and non-linear optical properties.

Giant bulk photovoltaic effect driven by the wall-to-wall charge shift in WS2 nanotubes

Bumseop Kim et al.

Summary: The one-dimensional nanotubes of transition-metal dichalcogenides exhibit unique optoelectronic characteristics, including the generation of a large shift current. By studying the geometric properties of these nanotubes and the inter-wall charge shifting effect, we can gain a quantum mechanical understanding of this phenomenon. Double-wall or multi-wall WS2 nanotubes also show efficient bulk photovoltaic effect.

Surfactant-Assisted Isolation of Small-Diameter Boron-Nitride Nanotubes for Molding One-Dimensional van der Waals Heterostructures

Shinpei Furusawa et al.

Summary: In this study, well-dispersed boron-nitride nanotube (BNNT) templates were successfully prepared via surfactant dispersions, and comprehensive microscopic analyses were performed. Statistical analysis revealed the enrichment of small-diameter double-walled BNNTs through chemical peeling. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the isolated BNNTs can template the coaxial growth of carbon and MoS2 nanotubes.

Photoluminescence from Single-Walled MoS2 Nanotubes Coaxially Grown on Boron Nitride Nanotubes

Ming Liu et al.

Summary: Coaxial synthesis of single-walled and multiwalled molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanotubes on boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) was achieved by removing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) from heteronanotubes. Single-walled MoS2 nanotubes exhibit direct bandgap structure around 6-7 nm diameter, with a transition from indirect to direct gap above 5.2 nm. Presence of SWCNTs in BNNTs and single-walled MoS2 nanotubes significantly quenches the PL signal.
