Magnetorotational supernovae: a nucleosynthetic analysis of sophisticated 3D models

M. Reichert et al.

Summary: Magnetorotational supernovae are a rare type of core-collapse supernovae that involve magnetic fields and rotation in the explosion dynamics. Post-processed nucleosynthesis of neutrino-MHD supernova models reveals three mechanisms for heavy r-process element production. The study highlights the role of magnetorotational supernovae in hypernovae, superluminous supernovae, and heavy element synthesis.

Production of Very Light Elements and Strontium in the Early Ejecta of Neutron Star Mergers

Albino Perego et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the production of very light elements (Z < 20) in binary neutron star mergers by combining detailed nucleosynthesis calculations with numerical relativity merger simulations. We found that hydrogen and helium are the most abundant light elements produced in the dynamical and spiral-wave wind ejecta. Synthetic spectra calculations suggest that detecting hydrogen and helium features in kilonova spectra is unlikely, but the possibility of observing helium lines a few days after merger is still possible for faint kilonovae or for luminous kilonovae ejecting large masses of helium.

The most metal-rich asymptotic giant branch stars

Amanda Karakas et al.

Summary: New stellar evolutionary sequences of very metal-rich stars are presented using the Monash Stellar Structure code and mesa. The study reveals that metallicity has a weaker influence on hot bottom burning, while it significantly affects core mass instabilities and minimum mass for carbon ignition.

Summary: The Gaia-ESO Public Spectroscopic Survey is an important project that aims to obtain astrophysical parameters and elemental abundances for a large sample of stars, providing valuable data for the homogenisation of other stellar surveys. The survey obtained a significant amount of spectra and the final data set will be released in the coming years.

Atomic data for the Gaia-ESO Survey

U. Heiter et al.

Summary: The study discusses the use of atomic and molecular data for abundance analyses of FGK-type stars within the Gaia-ESO Survey from 2012 to 2019. An effort was made to create a common line list for different analysis groups to calculate synthetic spectra, with preference for experimental data over theoretical values. Recommendations for line broadening data and enhancing accuracy in abundance determinations were provided.

Magnetic-buoyancy-induced mixing in AGB stars: a theoretical explanation of the non-universal relation of [Y/Mg] to age

L. Magrini et al.

Summary: The new AGB stellar model indicates that magnetic mixing leads to a reduced production efficiency of Y at high metallicity, with a fraction of stars with super-solar metallicity in the inner disc affected by reduced yields. The relationship between [Y/Mg] and stellar age is not universal and varies throughout the Galaxy depending on factors such as star formation rate and s-process yields.

Origin of the heaviest elements: The rapid neutron-capture process

John J. Cowan et al.

Summary: The rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) is responsible for about half of the heavy elements found in nature, but uncertainties and open questions remain. Studies suggest that the production of the majority of heavy r-process elements may be associated with neutron-rich conditions, such as neutron star mergers.

Evidence for sub-Chandrasekhar Type Ia supernovae from the last major merger

Jason L. Sanders et al.

Summary: This study confirms the significant contribution of sub-Chandrasekhar mass Type Ia supernovae to the chemical enrichment of the Gaia Sausage galaxy, with yields needing to be metallicity dependent. The research also suggests that in metal-poor systems, sub-Chandrasekhar mass channels may be the dominant contribution to Type Ia supernovae.

r-Process elements from magnetorotational hypernovae

D. Yong et al.

Summary: Research has shown that neutron-star mergers alone cannot explain the element abundance patterns of extremely metal-poor stars, indicating the existence of other sites for r-process nucleosynthesis. By studying the element abundance patterns of chemically primitive stars in the Milky Way, a potential mechanism involving a hypernova producing r-process elements has been discovered.
