Effects of Mirabilis jalapa L. root extract and sildenafil on paroxetine- induced sexual dysfunction in male rats and characterization of its phytoconstituents by UPLC-MS

Asad Ur Rahman et al.

Summary: The effects of Mirabilis jalapa L. root extract on paroxetine-induced sexual dysfunction in male rats were investigated. The results showed that treatment with 300 mg/kg M. jalapa extract significantly increased sexual activity and frequencies of mount, intromission, and ejaculation in male rats. The analysis also identified several biologically active constituents in M. jalapa root extract. This study confirmed the strong aphrodisiac effect of M. jalapa root extract on paroxetine-induced sexually depressed male rats.

Zinc improves sexual performance and erectile function by preventing penile oxidative injury and upregulating circulating testosterone in lead-exposed rats

Elizabeth Enohnyket Besong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of lead exposure on male sexual and erectile function, and verified the therapeutic effect of zinc. The results showed that zinc co-administration significantly improved penile weights, sexual behavior parameters, motivation to mate, and penile reflex/erection in lead-exposed rats. Zinc also attenuated lead-induced suppression of nitric oxide (NO), cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), dopamine, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and testosterone. Moreover, zinc alleviated lead-induced oxidative stress and upregulated testosterone via Nrf2-mediated signaling.

Ejaculation latency determines susceptibility to stress in the male rat

Carolina Sotelo-Tapia et al.

Summary: Stress has varying effects on sexual behavior, including enhancing execution or completely eliminating sexual interaction. This study investigates the relationship between sexual execution and susceptibility to stress. The results show that rats more susceptible to stress have longer ejaculation latency, even before stress is applied.

Ameliorative Sexual Behavior and Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitory Effects of Spondias mangifera Fruit Extract in Rodents: In Silico, In Vitro, and In Vivo Study

Mohammad Khalid et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the aphrodisiac activity of ethanolic extracts from Spondias mangifera fruit. In vitro molecular docking and simulation studies demonstrated the inhibition of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) by the extracts. In vivo analysis of sexual behavior and biochemical parameters confirmed the positive effects of the extracts on sexual performance and the levels of PDE-5, nitric oxide, and testosterone. The results suggest that the ethanolic extract of S. mangifera could be a valuable alternative aphrodisiac for erectile dysfunction.
