DFT investigations and molecular docking as potent inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 main protease of 4-phenylpyrimidine

Sibel Celik

Summary: In this study, the quantum chemical descriptors and vibrational analysis of 4-Phenylpyrimidine (4-PPy) were investigated. The most stable conformer was determined through conformational analysis. The molecular structure was optimized using the density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311 ++ G(d,p) level. The theoretical FT-IR and FT-Raman spectral data were consistent with the experimental results. UV-Vis experiments were conducted in the gas phase and different solvents using the TD-DFT method and the PCM solvent model. Molecular properties and reactivity parameters were described using the DFT method. Additionally, the antiviral activity of the 4-PPy compound was assessed through molecular docking into coronavirus 2 (SARS-n-CoV-2) protein structures, showing good affinities for binding.

Violation of Hund's rule in molecules: Predicting the excited-state energy inversion by TD-DFT with double-hybrid methods

J. C. Sancho-Garcia et al.

Summary: In this study, the energy difference between the lowest singlet and triplet excited states of a set of azaphenalene compounds, which violate Hund's rule and show an inversion of state order, is calculated using a family of double-hybrid density functionals. The results demonstrate that these double-hybrid density functional models, with the approximate inclusion of double excitations, can accurately predict the energy order and energy difference of the excited states.
