Highly Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Hydrogen Sulfide in the Gas Phase Using Anatase/TiO2(B) Nanotubes

Yukino Uesugi et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic and corrosive gas that even at very low concentrations causes a foul odor. In this study, TiO2-based nanotubes were used to successfully reduce H2S concentrations from 10 ppm to 1 ppb or lower, generating industrially useful oxidation products.

Modifications in structural, morphological and optical properties of TiO2 nanoparticles: effect of pH

Shweta Manchwari et al.

Summary: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a unique system for studying nanoscale phenomena due to its optical and electrical properties. This study synthesized three different samples of TiO2 using different acidic concentrations, and compared their properties. Hydrothermal synthesis was used to produce TiO2 nanoparticles, and the acidic concentration was controlled using nitric acid (HNO3). Characterization techniques were used to study the structural, morphological, and optical properties of the nanoparticles. The results showed that the acidic concentration affected the size, morphology, and band gap energy of the TiO2 nanoparticles.

Modeling of size and shape dependent band gap, dielectric constant and phonon frequency of semiconductor nanosolids

M. Singh et al.

Summary: A bond theory model was extended to study the size and shape dependent optoelectronics properties of semiconductor solids at the nanoscale, finding that the fraction of surface atoms and dangling bonds play a role in influencing the properties of semiconductors. The model predicts an increase in energy band with decreasing size and a more pronounced effect when changing shape from spherical to tetrahedral. The decrease in phonon frequency and dielectric constants of semiconductor nanostructured materials with decreasing particle size was also projected in the model, showing good agreement with experimental data.
