Trends in thyroid cancer burden in Taiwan over two decades

Sheena Yi-Hsin Cheng et al.

Summary: The incidence rates of thyroid cancer in Taiwan have been steadily increasing over the past two decades, with significant upward trends observed in all age groups. While the mortality rate from thyroid cancer has decreased in women, it has remained stable in men.

Upregulation of dendrocyte-expressed seven transmembrane protein is associated with unfavorable outcomes in differentiated thyroid cancer

Jie-Jen Lee et al.

Summary: This study identified DCSTAMP as a prognostic gene involved in dendritic cell differentiation for thyroid cancer. DCSTAMP was found to be overexpressed in various types of thyroid cancers and associated with poor clinical outcomes. Further studies are needed to explore the potential immunomodulatory role of DCSTAMP in thyroid cancer.

SREBP1 promotes invasive phenotypes by upregulating CYR61/CTGF via the Hippo-YAP pathway

Chi-Yu Kuo et al.

Summary: Aberrant lipid metabolism plays a crucial role in providing energy, building materials, and oxidative stress resistance to cancer cells. This study found that high expression of SREBP1 in invasive thyroid cancer is associated with extrathyroidal extension, advanced disease stage, and shorter disease-specific survival. SREBP1 overexpression promotes cancer cell invasiveness through the upregulation of CYR61/CTGF via the Hippo-YAP pathway.

Follicular Helper T-Cell-Based Classification of Endometrial Cancer Promotes Precise Checkpoint Immunotherapy and Provides Prognostic Stratification

Yi Chen et al.

Summary: Through studying the transcriptome features of endometrial cancer patients, we identified T follicular helper-like cells (Tfh) as an important factor with potential clinical application in anti-PD-1 treatment. We constructed a Tfh Infiltration Risk Model (TIRM) and found that it outperformed existing models in predicting the prognosis of EC patients.

CRABP1 in Non-Canonical Activities of Retinoic Acid in Health and Diseases

Jennifer Nhieu et al.

Summary: Cellular Retinoic Acid Binding Protein 1 (CRABP1) plays an important role as a mediator of non-canonical activities of retinoic acid and is associated with stem cell proliferation, cancers, adipocyte health, neuro-immune regulation, heart, and motor neuron diseases. Abnormal CRABP1 is potentially associated with human diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and immune diseases.

PDZK1 Interacting Protein 1 Promotes the Progression of Papillary Thyroid Cancer

Kun Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified 39 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with the progression of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), among which PDZK1IP1 was found to be upregulated both at the mRNA and protein levels. High expression of PDZK1IP1 was associated with poor progression-free survival, lymph node metastasis, and other clinical characteristics in PTC. Functionally, PDZK1IP1 promoted proliferation and inhibited apoptosis of PTC cells, suggesting its role as an oncogene and potential therapeutic target in PTC.

ACLY inhibitors induce apoptosis and potentiate cytotoxic effects of sorafenib in thyroid cancer cells

Shou-Sen Huang et al.

Summary: This study found that ACLY expression is increased in anaplastic thyroid cancer. ACLY inhibitors can suppress the growth, clonogenic ability, and invasion of thyroid cancer cells and promote cell apoptosis. In addition, ACLY inhibitors can enhance the cytotoxicity of sorafenib. Therefore, targeting ACLY may be a novel therapeutic strategy for thyroid cancer.

Jacob Haase et al.

Summary: ATC can be distinguished from other types of thyroid carcinoma by the protein expression of IGF2BP1 and MAGEA3, with 75% of ATC samples showing IGF2BP1 protein positive while only 0.5% of other types of thyroid carcinoma showing this protein positive, making IGF2BP1 an important marker for auxiliary diagnosis.

Inhibition of BRAF and ERK1/2 has synergistic effects on thyroid cancer growth in vitro and in vivo

Hannah M. Hicks et al.

Summary: Mutations in the BRAF gene are common in thyroid cancer, with mixed responses to BRAF-directed therapies. Combination therapies targeting the MAPK pathway at multiple nodes, such as BRAF and ERK1/2 inhibition, have shown promise in overcoming resistance and enhancing tumor growth inhibition, clonogenic survival decrease, and apoptosis induction in BRAF-mutant thyroid cancer cells. This study supports the potential of combined BRAF and ERK1/2 inhibition as an alternative therapeutic strategy for advanced thyroid cancer patients.
