A randomized diet-induced weight-loss intervention reduces plasma complement C3: Possible implication for endothelial dysfunction

Shunxin Jin et al.

Summary: This study found that weight-loss intervention can significantly reduce C3 levels in individuals with obesity, potentially improving endothelial dysfunction. The reduction in C3 was mainly achieved through a decrease in visceral adipose tissue and partly explained the improvement in cardiovascular disease risk due to weight loss.

Effect of APOB polymorphism rs562338 (G/A) on serum proteome of coronary artery disease patients: a proteogenomic approach

Muneeza Zafar et al.

Summary: In this study, proteomic analysis guided by APOB (rs1052031) genotype was conducted on a Pakistani population cohort. Significant differences were found in genotypic frequencies between CAD patients and healthy individuals, with the rare AA allele associated with CAD. Label-free proteomics identified altered expression of 60 significant proteins, showing up-regulated pathways in AA genotype related to cholesterol and sterol transfer activity. This approach provides insights into CAD pathobiology and serves as a platform for identifying novel proteins and pathways related to cardiovascular diseases.

Mass Spectrometry-Based Lipidomics Reveals Differential Changes in the Accumulated Lipid Classes in Chronic Kidney Disease

Lukasz Marczak et al.

Summary: The study found a specific lipidomic link between chronic kidney disease and atherosclerosis, with an increase in triacylglycerols and a decrease in cholesterol, sphingomyelins, and other lipid components. Additionally, a decrease in fatty acid levels and an increase in glycerol levels were observed, supporting the postulated association between low cholesterol levels and kidney dysfunction.

Mass Spectrometry for the Monitoring of Lipoprotein Oxidations by Myeloperoxidase in Cardiovascular Diseases

Catherine Coremans et al.

Summary: Oxidative modifications of HDLs and LDLs by myeloperoxidase can lead to dysfunction and increased cardiovascular disease risk, which can be quantified using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. While current standard methods for quantifying apolipoproteins based on immunoassays have limitations, mass spectrometry offers a potential and reliable alternative.

Prognostic Impact of Immunoglobulin Kappa C (IGKC) in Early Breast Cancer

Marcus Schmidt et al.

Summary: IGKC expression is associated with improved distant disease-free survival in early breast cancer patients, especially in those with hormone receptor-negative or HER2-negative tumors. This humoral immunity marker may be a potential target for immunotherapy in breast cancer, particularly in triple-negative breast cancers.
