Synthesis and application prospect of small-pore zeolites in vehicle exhaust purification

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: In recent years, catalysts supported by eight-membered ring small-pore zeolites have gained attention for their excellent NH3-SCR reaction activity, hydrothermal stability, and resistance to HCs poisoning. CHA zeolite is a good candidate for purifying NOx from automobile exhaust. The synthesis of these zeolites with high performance and stability at a low cost is a major challenge for researchers.

Application progress of small-pore zeolites in purifying NOx from motor vehicle exhaust

Haodan Cheng et al.

Summary: Lean-burn mode of diesel vehicles leads to high NOx emission, which can be effectively removed by SCR unit. This article focuses on the application of small-pore zeolites SSZ-13 and SSZ-39 in NOx purification through PNA and SCR, providing advanced guidance for researchers in this field.

Assessment of zeolite-based Low temperature NOx adsorbers: Effect of reductants during multiple sequential cold starts

Joseph R. Theis et al.

Summary: The study investigated three low temperature NOx adsorbers (LTNA) including BEA, CHA, and ZSM5 zeolites, with CHA showing the best performance in NOx storage and release, and BEA being the most thermally durable. In tests with CO-containing feedgas, performance degraded gradually, attributed to the reduction of Pd by CO.

The superior hydrothermal stability of Pd/SSZ-39 in low temperature passive NOx adsorption (PNA) and methane combustion

Konstantin Khivantsev et al.

Summary: Uniform SSZ-39 crystals were synthesized to support Pd for PNA, with Pd primarily dispersed as isolated Pd(II) and Pd(II)-OH centers suitable for low-temperature passive NOx adsorption. The new material exhibited superior hydrothermal stability compared to Pd/SSZ-13, surviving aging up to 815 degrees C without significant loss of activity. In addition to PNA, the hydrothermally stable material can also serve as a robust methane combustion catalyst under practical conditions.

Multiple templating strategy for the control of aluminum and phosphorus distributions in AFX zeolite

Nao Tsunoji et al.

Summary: This study utilized a multiple templating strategy to control the distribution of aluminum and phosphorus in AFX zeolite synthesis. The use of bulky template TEBOP2+ and small template Me4N+ resulted in AFX zeolites with different Si/Al ratios. Characterization by elemental analysis and NMR spectroscopy revealed that TEBOP2+ mainly occupied the wide aft cage, while Me4N+ preferentially occupied the narrow gme cage, impacting the Si/Al ratio.

Local structure and NO adsorption/desorption property of Pd2+ cations at different paired Al sites in CHA zeolite

Shunsaku Yasumura et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the local structures and NO adsorption properties of Pd cations in Pd-CHA zeolites using DFT calculations and experimental measurements. The results showed that increasing Pd loading improved NO adsorption and shifted the NO desorption temperature to higher temperatures. Additionally, the effect of Al distribution on the NO adsorption property of Pd-CHA was examined, demonstrating that the NO adsorption/desorption properties of Pd-CHA can be tuned by controlling the Pd loading amount and the type of paired Al sites.
